Thoughts on Baby Registry...

I registered this weekend and I am happy with what I chose except for I have no little stuff on it.  I think I may be being a brat but I don't want to register for little stuff (ie bath accessories, little toys, burp clothes, blankets etc) because I can get that all for myself or people will buy it for me anyway.  I guess I just want the major stuff bought for me and not little stuff...what are your thoughts on that..should I add some small stuff or just keep it to the bigger stuff...my registery items go from about $20-$200...tia!

Re: Thoughts on Baby Registry...

  • I went ahead and registered for the little stuff because of the completion coupon.

  • You need to add some small stuff.

One thing to consider is going on to Amazon and creating a registry for kids books. They usually cost between $3-$14 and make great gifts.

  • I would say as long as you have several items that are in the $20 range then you might be ok.  I just always think about what if someone doesn't want to spend a lot, you could atleast give them a few ideas in the $20 and under range to go with. However, like you said, if they don't want to spend a certain amount then they are probably just going to get you what they want to anyway!
  • I'm putting all the little stuff like bath products, wipes, etc. on my registry so people see the brand that we are going with.  They will buy it regardless, but if they are looking for filler gifts, might as well let them know what you prefer right?  It's all about the options Wink

  • i registered for everything we thought we would need, but made sure i had plenty of inexpensive options.  ours ranges from probably $2.00 up to $350 (the stroller, which i don't expect anyone to actually get).

i'm having two showers, one of which is being thrown by 6-7 girls, so chances are they'll all go in together & get one of the larger gifts.  people may decide to do that for you as well.   the older ladies from the church i grew up in will get me whatever they think i need without even looking at the registry, so i'm hoping my friends will shop from it.

i felt bad putting the exorbitant stroller i want on there (peg perego), but my reasoning is that once showers are over, if there are doubles or things that people get that we decide against keeping, we can return it & apply the credits to the big purchases, AND use the completion coupon when we buy it ourselves.

  • Seems like you have a variety of prices to choose from. It's not like you only registered for big ticket items.

People will buy you little items as extras anyways. I had so many bibs from DS that I didn't need to buy him new ones til he was over a year. He is nearly 3 and we still have some of the johnson and johson bath wash recieved in our wishing well too!

  • I had about 10 items that were in the under $20 range.  I got quite a few from people at work and along with higher-priced items.  You should register for some of these just in case people that you arent so close to want to get you  a little something (or else you'll get ugly onesies)

Agree!  Also, you never know if someone wants to create a basket of "little things."

  • I registered for the little things for 3 reasons:

    1. Completion discount

    2. People like to add things on a package sometimes (like a pacifier or whatever) and often people like to know what you'd prefer

    3. It's very important to have a variety of options for people with any type of budget. The more little things are on there, the more likely someone will be able to find something within their means.

  • People are going to buy you little stuff for you.  You might as well be able to pick what you want.  I would at least register for a few small things.

I think it's a good idea to give people options....

I registered for washclothes, burpclothes, blankets, bath toys but only in limited amounts.  I figure people will see that we need them and pick out whatever they like best and I'm perfectly fine with that.  For example, I didn't want to register for 6 packages of washclothes and have all of those purchased plus the washclothes that people just purchased without looking at the registry. I also added spoons and smaller items more recently.

Ditto this.  If people are going to buy me small stuff, I'd sure rather it be the small stuff that I want!
