I am the queen of thrifty, cheap, whatever you want to call it. I've been scouring CL, consignment stores and thrift stores for furniture deals. Well, I ended up finding a great headboard and rail and dresser that someone just sat on the curb. Love the dresser and it only has a slight chip you can't even notice.
Then yesterday as I was leaving for work I noticed a kitchen table set and couch on the curb. I had my mom check it out for me and the kitchen table is really great and I can take out the leaf in the middle to make it smaller (has two leaves to make it bigger actually). The chairs are a bit scratched on the seat but I'm just going to make some cushions for
them. The loveseat and chair are in fairly good shape -- missing some buttons here and there but whatever. I'm just going to slipcover it. And, there was a dresser I haven't decided if I'll use b/c of the drawers. The table, loveseat, chair and second dresser belonged to a woman who lived across from us and is buying a house. I saw her last night and told her thank you b/c that helps me free up some money for now and I can have more time to really find things I like later.
My sister was laughing and saying, "you've furnished an entire place and spent nothing!" That is just how I roll. I still have A's toddler bed so I just need mattresses for myself , a washer and dryer and a tv and I'm set! Yay.

My DH and my dad would be so proud of you if they knew you
Great finds
Kris-- It's just my camera phone. It's more of a deep maroon (or somewhere in that color family but not purple).
Rebekah -- I aim to please. ;-)
I like diy projects so I'm kind of glad I'm not getting brand new things.
Wow. Those pieces look like they're not in that bad of shape for someone to just put them by the curb! It amazes me what people will throw away.
The loveseat/chair have great lines and will look great with the right slipcover!
Too bad you aren't in MI. I have a 32" tv you could totally have. DH and I both each had a houseful of tvs when we met and now we have some just sitting in the basement.
Have you tried Freecycle?
I have seen people offering usable washers & dryers for nothing. You just pick 'em up.
