Stretch mark question?

If using cocoa butter or whatever other lotion does not help prevent stretch marks why bother using it? I keep hearing that it won't help but then people still say you should be using it! Is there other benefits for the cocoa butter?

Re: Stretch mark question?

  • It helps relieve the itch of stretching skin.

Does just cocoa butter help with the itch? I've been using a different type of lotion that is also very creamy. Haven't had much itchiness yet but I'm sure it will be coming!

  • I'm a lotion junkie so I'm always I have a million to choose from.  I found that the Palmer's Stretch Mark lotion reeks so I only used it a few times.

I just try to make sure that whatever lotion I'm using dries fast.  I hate having my clothing stick to me.

Yea I can't stand that either!

  • I have been applying lotion like a it was my job this entire pregnancy.

I just found my first stretch mark today before I showered. I thought I was in the clear. Oh well.

  • There are also some lotions and creams that will help to lighten the color of the stretch marks as well... some girls on here swear by them.

Honestly, if you are going to get them, you're going to get them. There is no stopping it. That's just how I feel.

  • You are just conditioning your skin similar to how one might condition hair.  It will give your skin some luminosity and look and feel better.  I think there is some truth to the use of vitamin E but I am too lazy to break vitamin packets and rub them on my belly every day. Oh well...I guess we will just see how things play out.

  • I used lotion faithfully, with no luck.  However, at one point I was crying for lotion.  My skin stretched so tight that it not only itched, but burned.  I learned to have a small container of lotion at hand at all times.
  • I lube up my tummy after every shower. I dont use cocoa butter (as I hate the smell) I just use my body shop body butter or bbw stuff. It helps the itchiness and the tightness.

  • The only thing I have heard that is good for preventing stretch marks is to use vitamin e oil. You can get it at Walmart or GNC. My sister used it with all three of her pregnancies and doesn't have any stretch marks.
