Got a call from my OBGYN today who first told DH that they could see all 4 chambers of the heart on our u/s, which is in stark contrast to what the technician said Friday. Then she calls back to talk to me once I got out of the shower and said the opposite, that we need to get an level 2 u/s from a perinaologist.
So I start asking questions and apparently there's only 2 in the Southern part of the state- one we already went to for genetic counseling where we had a terrible experience.
For those of you who have to see a specialist, how long did you wait for your appointments? I work in healthcare- I'm a psychotherapist, and I never keep someone waiting more than 10-15 minutes past their appointment time. If I have to, I call them early enough to let them know there's an issue and give them the option of coming later or rescheduling so I don't waste their time.
I spent the better part of 2 hours PAST my appointment time waiting to see a genetic counselor. When we asked the receptionist about how much longer it would be she said "Why? You have somewhere to be?" If I had to wait that long with an u/s with the water and not urinating I seriously think I would just pee right on her face.
I'm trying to figure out if I'm better off driving the 30-45 minutes out of the way to go to the other place...
Thoughts?
Re: Ugh I am so pissed off. VENT- seeing specialist-
Take it from me..if you hated the first place, go to the other one. Your experience will be that much better.
I wait a long time at the specialist doctor. The first time it was over an hour, the second time it was 30 minutes and today it was like 45. They keep apologizing but it all depends on what issues they run into with previous patients.
we saw a genetic counselor out of morristown memorial hospital last year when i was pregnant with DD and she didnt keep us waiting long, possibly about 15 minutes and she didnt rush us or make us feel "dumb". I belive her name was Mara Van Etten Hope this helps!
I should also add with the specialist doctor and genetic counselor, don't be afraid to ask questions, politely argue their points, ask for terms in plain english, and trust your intuition. In my experience, they like to play God so to speak and come up with the worst case scenario. Get all the answers you need and want.
That and I didn't have to have a full bladder for my Level II ultrasounds...they actually prefer it empty because they say baby moves more. So I'd ask about that.
