Changing table question

https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S79853807

Has anyone used a changing table with this design/known someone who does? Does it have adequate space? Is it user friendly?

DH and I like the matching crib, but we would like our changing table to match ... and I'm unsure about this one.

TIA :)

Re: Changing table question

  • I haven't seen anything like that before.  I just wanted to say that we bought this dresser image, which matches the crib, for DS and just put a changing pad on the top.  It works just fine.

  • It looks really unstable to me.  The way the top sticks out looks like it would be top heavy and difficult to get to needed items that are stored below.

If they make a dresser that matches the crib you can use that.  It doesn't have to be a changing table.

  • I think I am getting that one. ?It isn't very big, but we have a really tiny house, so I need something that I can fit into a small space. ?It has enough room to put some baskets full of diapering supplies into, and then the two drawers are decent. ?I am not in love with it, but it works.
  • I like the modern look of it. My only concern would be having to reach far under the changer to access the storage cubbies and drawers. It is really cool looking. I'm sure you'd get used to it if you really like the look.

Ikea dressers (at least the one we bought for ourselves) seem to be poorly made and fall apart - the drawers kepts coming off the casters, etc.   Other things we bought from Ikea were fine, though!    If you have limited space, you would be better off buying a regular dresser and either put the change pad on top of that or change baby in the crib.   I only ended up using a change pad for about a month and then moved to changing in the crib - it just felt safer!   If you are looking for storage space for diapering stuff, I suggest a shelf and put baskets in it.
  • I think the dresser with the pad on top is better. We ended up getting a free one with DS and thank god we did cause we ended up using maybe 10 times. Every other time it was in his crib, the floor with a blanket, on the couch or in our bed.We didn't even bring it with us when we moved in August. To be completely honest I think change tables in general are a waste of money and a bit of a scam. The dresser part is obviously fine.
  • I don't think you need any changing table.  You only use it for a couple months and then they start to move around.  It's a huge waste of money and space.  Have you seen the Ikea crib in person?  I don't know if it's changed in a year in a half from when I was pregnant with my first, but when I saw it, the thing was junk!  It was really unsteady.
  • Personally, I would avoid Ikea furniture altogether.  It's usually the cheap particle board crap that falls apart after not too long.  I definitely wouldn't buy it for something I'd want to keep my baby safe.  JMHO.
