we are thinking about it. we're actually meeting with our potential doula tomorrow evening!

we were thinking about it and we had an appointment with one. I asked my OB what she thought about Doulas and she is not a big fan of them just bc they have no medical back ground and sometimes they start to speak for the mom-to-be. My OB says that you will have a nurse with you all the time that has medical back ground and that will do the same thing that a Doula would do. And she says that a Doula will get paid more then she will. (this is in Canada, I don't know about the US) Crazy. So we are not going to go with one

Yes i have a doula, she goes with me to dr appts. i love her, she helps me explain things to hubby. If anything comes up i can get help from her right away. Plus she will be there to help me and hubby with the birth of baby.

I am not, just because I want my husband to be involved and also be my advocate during labor and delivery. I would just rather him there than a woman I only met a few times before.

The nurse generally won't do everything the doula will. The doula will come to your house and help you be comfortable there longer so that you don't get to the hospital too soon. She will be your voice if you want her help so that you can focus on what you are doing. She will touch you and help you understand and be confident. She will not leave the room except to go to the bathroom at the hospital. She will help your partner feel like they are helping more becuase she can help them know what to do with themselves. The list goes on. It's just not everyones cup of tea. If you are planning to go without medication I think a doula would be a great asset. We are going to use one. We met with one but she won't be in town for Christmas/ New Year and we're due 12/27.

Before you start meeting with them check to make sure that your hospital allows doulas. I know that some hospitals do not allow doulas due various issues they may had with them in the past.

I am meeting with one next week. I will decide after I meet her but I plan on having one! I plan on doing hypnobirthing with no medication so I think a doula would be very helpful.

I'd switch hospitals if that were the case. Seems like a pretty darn un-mother friendly policy

It had to due with some doulas not having a medical background but directing medical decisions for moms that opposed the OB's suggestion. There were a few bad outcomes with baby/mom's that ended in legal issues and the hospital's felt it was just better to ban them.

Totally off on a tangent now. I would still switch hospitals. They have effectively punished mothers for behavior that a properly trained doula knows is unethical and inappropriate. The specific doulas should be banned (and lose their credentials), not all doulas

We're getting one.

My midwife gave me some suggestions on who to interview. DH asked if we really needed to spend the money on one. Then I explained the doula would take a lot of pressure off him of him. That changed his mind pretty quick.
