MY BFF baby shower is in August.. need advice or ideas..

We are going to have a shower for her in August and I wanted to do something and need advice.. When I got married my mother put this little poem in the invitation and it was about kitchen untensils.. It was meant for everyone to bring thier favorite kitchen gadget for this basket.. So everyone did and I had this cool basket with all different things.. I wanted to do the same for her shower.. But I wanted everyone to bring their favorite childhood book... What do you think? any advice on how to go about it?

    Maybe put something like "in lieu of a card, please sign and bring your favorite baby book"

    not very clever, but it will get the point across.

    My cousin had a shower where for every box of diapers you brought you would be entered into a drawing.  Her gift basket was cheese and wine.  She probably spent $50.00 on it but got tons of diapers!

    I think that is a great idea. A coworker of mine had her shower about 6 months ago and did a children's book theme. Her invitation was cute but I can't remember the wording. I googled the theme and got this. it has a couple ideas for invitation wording. GL!
