Explain-All white/linen party?

Has anybody else ever been to an all white party (meaning everybody is supposed to wear white and most often that is linen)? Explain to me the point of this, I just don't get it.

I went to one of these last year and it seems to be the popular thing again this summer. First it ticked me off that I had to look up and down for an all white outfit as I wear a shitton of black - I realized finding an all white outfit and shoes is not easy by the way.

I understand a theme party where everybody dresses Hawaiianish becuase you're having a luau or for 4th of July everybody dresses in RW&B but to have a party where everybody wears white, what's the point?

  • Hmm, I've never heard of this.  I guess it's a cute idea in theory, everyone dressed in pretty, summery linen, but linen is a pain to keep wrinkle free and white is not the most flattering color on most people.

  • I have only heard of celebrities and rich people doing this.  I don't know why it is en vogue, but I think P Diddy may have started the trend.
  • b/c it's the cool thing to do!  damn!  you are obviously NOT COOL.

i would be counting down the seconds until i spilled s something down my all white outfit.  it wouldn't take long.  or is all the food white too?

  • New Orleans has a White Linen Night, which is a block party on a street with a bunch of galleries. It's fun, and everyone at least looks cool and elegant, but generally everyone's sweating their asses off.

    I wonder if it's a southern thing?

  • Lot's of my African American girlfriends go to white parties.  Every year my friends that are AKA attend a black and white ball.
  • here is new orleans, we have an event called 'White Linen Night". A bunch of art galeries in the city supply the wine and finger foods. I believe it may cost a certain amount to get the wrist band, but the proceeds go to a good cause. Although im not sure if you are required to wear white linen but everyone does, and you would stick out like a sore thumb if you didnt.

On the other hand was also have dirty linen night, where things get a little more roudy....

Im not sure of the exact point of this, but down here any reason to get together and have a few drinks...and people will show up!

Tell me about it, I am definitely not cool especially dressed in head to toe white on my pasty skin. Plus I found out shortly afterwards that I was PG so I looked rather bloated and white is not very slimming.
