Yesterday I ended up in L&D with contractions that were 1 minute apart. I went to the Dr. because of loss of movement and he discovered the contractions on the monitor.
I was dehydrated.
As happy as I was to see my baby again on an ultrasound, I would rather have not been in the situation. I thought I had been doing a good job staying hydrated, but I guess it wasn't good enough. So, if I could go back again knowing what I know now, I would have drank 3 ice cold waters in a row to get the baby moving. I had tried food, a glass of water, laying down, changing positions, cookies, and EVERYTHING else I could think of for 12 hours but there just wasn't enough water to keep my body from contracting.
The nurse said that dehydration was one of the top reasons women go into false labor. The whole story is in my blog, but this post pretty much covers the details.
Re: PSA: Loss of Movement

I'm sorry you had to go to L & D, but I thank you for the reminder!

I always chug juice in the middle of the night (I ususally wake b/t 2-4) and used to feel guilty but then I was looking at the nutritional facts and I never knew that OJ has folate in it. Woohoo. No more guilt! Calcium and folate in my midnight snack...
That's a good point. I usually have a gatorade during the day (which I ran out of yesterday) and I also drink cranberry juice and tea. It's amazing how quickly your body get dehydrated while pregnant! I had been drinking SO much all weekend, and then Sunday evening and Monday I kind of slacked on it and this is what happened!
My dr told me this, and she also said that things like popsicles and freeze pops are good to keep you hydrated.
I went into L&D last night too for the same reason, minus the loss of movement. I was having period-like cramping all day long that I feared was pre-term labor, because I never felt pain like that since before i got pregnant. Anyway, after hours of monitoring and getting put on an IV drip, they realized I was having contractions due to dehydration. Now it's only 2:30 pm but i think I've already had 8 glasses of water today. And i'm not done. Drink up, ladies!
