How much $ or what present would you give?

DH is in a wedding on the 4th that he has to travel 8 hours to be in. ?He obviously has to pay for his tux and hotel and other travel arrangements for the 3 nights he will be gone. ?What would you give for a gift, money or otherwise?

    usually the cost of the plate (or that's how it was in NY anyway).  So maybe $200 for two people.  $150 if he's going by himself.  The other costs you are incurring are not relevant, IMO.

    If I'm in the party, that probably means I'm close to this person, so I'd still want to give more. Maybe $200-$300

    If he's in the wedding, he's close enough to them to do something decent.  Of course "decent" means different things to different people.  $100 ish.  I'd do an actual gift instead of $.

    For family and close friends I do 100, and that is alot around here.
