Is anyone using bumgenius one size adjustable cloth diapers? If you are, do they fit your newborn baby and do you like them? I'm debating buying a couple to try out, but they're expensive so I wanted to get some opinions before I buy them.
The one size diapers won't fit your baby until around 8-10 lbs. For a newborn you can go with a fitted diaper or sized all in one, Bum Genius makes those too. I think the most popular fitted for a newborn though is Kissaluv, it has a snap in the front for the umbilical cord. You'll also need a cover for those. We personally used prefolds with snappis and covers because they are so cheap and newborns go through like 12 diapers a day. I think everyone on the EFF board is down for the night, but if you have any CD questions, I'm here. Cding baby #2 now
I use a diaper service for cloth diapers. They drop off, pick up, wash, etc. All I gotta do is leave the dirty ones outside each week. The place I use actually costs about $10 a month cheaper then if you buy disposables, but its in AZ. You should research diaper services in your area! I prefer cloth, w out having to wash them myself... lol
I would suggest trying the trial from Jillians Drawers to see what you like. Also, spend some time over on the Earth Family Friendly board to learn more about all the options out there - there are a ton. Plus, a lot of it is trial and error - what works for you, may not work for me.
I've been cloth diapering DS#1 for 7 months now and I have two BG's for him. Personally, I'm not a big fan. They stain easily IMO, fit small (if you're looking for something to fit up to potty training), and take foever to dry. We've had a lot of problems with them smelling too. For my son, I love pocket diapers which you can stuff with different inserts. Haute Pockets are my absolute favorite if you can find them.
As for newborns though, I LOVE cloth diapering DD. It is so much easier than disposables. I actually was really surprised to find out that I also like prefolds with a cover over them. We have the Green Mountain Diapers prefolds in the orange edge. Oh, and don't let the whole pinning scare you away. There are these great things called snappis to hold them in place. Right now, I just fold it in thirds though and place inside the cover. Works great! I would go up a size and get the yellow ones if I were you though. My favorite covers are Imse Vimse or Blueberries covers in small. Olive Janes makes some cute ones on Etsy but DD isn't big enough for her size small yet at 8 lbs. I do have all in ones (what BG's are considered) for night time though and my favorite are Spososeasy and Thirsties AIOs are my second favorite.
PS - I have a couple recent posts about cloth diapering a newborn as well as pictures of fit in my blog. Feel free to check it out. https://livinglargeonadime.blogspot.com/
