2nd Trimester

2 Door Cars???

So my Husband and MIL both drive Mustangs. MIL will be our primary childcare. I'm looking for a car seat that is easy to move in and out of the back seat or that is easy to get the baby out of. Any second time moms or moms that have the same problem that can recommend something to me.

Thanks!

  • Are you going to have to give your MIL your carseat everyday?  I don't think that is recommended.

I would recommend having MIL get a car seat for her car, esp since she's going to be the primary childcare.

  • DH has a mustang too! We are trying to decide if we need to sell it (our other car is a truck) or if we can put the baby in it. We have fit two front facing car seats in it no problem- rear facing will be a different story. I honestly don't see how you will be able to take the car seat out easily with baby in it, so I would suggest looking for something you can get LO out of easily. I would see if there is any way you can test out getting the car seats in before buying them.

  • Honestly, there is no seat that makes it any easier to get a baby/child in an out of the back seat. Probably when baby is an infant seat, it is the easiest since then you'll only need to snap the seat in and out of the base. When the baby moves to a rear-facing convertible seat, it is going to be awkward no matter what you do. Now that I think about it, my recommendation would be to get MIL one of the infant carriers that lasts longer (like the Snugride 32).

FWIW, my H drives and Eclipse and we didn't bother getting a carseat for his car. We've always just traded cars when necessary.

  • My cousin had this same issue with her Grand Am a few years back. Getting a different car was not an option money wise. She just bought extra carrier bases for the Grandmothers or whoever needed them. Left her base in her car so she just had to remove the carrier. She said it wasn't totally convenient but it was better than taking out the whole works everyday.

I doubt you're still checking this, since you posted it yesterday, but I wanted to share that I have an Accord coupe that's pretty tiny, and I found that while the Keyfit 30 fits well in the backseat, it's still a pain to get in and out. I think any seat will be a pain to get in and out, but if you are having trouble fitting one in there, I recommend the Keyfit 30.
