Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

If your baby was on lactose-free formula....

are they now taking regular whole milk?  How long did you take to transition them?

Since my supply tanked about a month ago, I have had to give her lactose free formula bc regular formula caused her extremely painful gas and horrible constipation.  I am a little nervous about the transition to whole milk and was curious if you were able to transition successfully or if you had to change to an alternate milk.

TIA

  • DS was on soy and we decided to try soy milk...he did well so we tried whole milk mixed with soy formula for about a month.  He's officially off formula and on whole milk...no problems!

  • DS1 was on lactose free formula and we switched him to whole milk at a year with no problems.

  • I am not sure exactly. I BF DD until 7 months, the switch her to Enfamil Lipil, and then at 1 yr, tried to switch her to whole milk, and it was not working. Poor baby had the runs (sorry, TMI) and couldnlt hold anything in. We have since switched her to Lactaid whole milk, and half not any problem since. It sucks though, as Lactaid is about $3.99/half gallon. Now that she is eating more food, she had a morning bottle and a night bottle, with an occasional afternoon-nap bottle.
  • ds was on alimentum for dairy and soy allergies. i was so nervous to switch him to whole milk because of all the problems he had, but it went great! he LOVES whole milk! but i still haven't fully transitioned him to whole milk though...we have some formula to use up and i think he could use the extra calories!
  • DD was on gentlease formula and when we tried whole milk she was SOOOO gassy. I talked to the pedi and he recommended that we should keep her on the formula for a while longer if the milk was causing problems...
