Clicky Poll: Pull-ups or not

I am in the process of planning our potty training process.  I am still undecided as to whether we should use Pull-ups or just go straight to underwear.  What are you planning to do?  I am actually leaning towards not using the Pull-ups but of course I haven't made up my mind yet.[Poll]

Re: Clicky Poll: Pull-ups or not

  • Pull ups feel like diapers.  I feel it is important to use underwear/panties during the day and pull ups or diapers at night - AND for outings.  Much easier than cleaning the carseat!

    Good Luck!

  • IMO, pull ups are a nightmare because you have to take off ALL of their clothes to put a new one on (from the waist down anyway).  It is a huge pain, and gross when there is poop in there.  You can rip them off, but you can't easily put a new one on.  I worked in daycare years ago, and they used to tell the parents to put underwear over the diaper until the kid was ready to take off the diaper.  That was the kids could practice pulling up and down the underwear, without the annoying-ness of a pull up

  • We went straight to undies with DD#1 and just use pull ups at night.  SHe hated peeing down her leg so she stopped and was potty trained by her 2nd birthday.  Messy but very worth it!!  GL!!
  • I'd love to hear what you're planning for this process.  DD is ready to start getting potty trained, and I haven't a clue where to start!

  • You need an option for "I can't believe people are thinking about potty training already.  I must be a slacker."

  • We did only underwear during the day with DS1 and pull-ups for naps/night time. It took a weekend to pt DS1 at 28 months old. We tried at 15-17 months old and he was not getting it... then we tried at 23 months old again while on vacation, did not work again. 28 months old was the right age for him.

I plan to do the same with DS2, except we'll skip the 15-17 months try and try at 2 y.o. and see how it goes - undies only during the day.

DS is already able to pee on the potty, and in the bathtub which he thinks is hilarious.  He just hasn't told us yet that he needs to go.  He hasn't gone poop on the potty yet but as soon as he has gone in his diaper he immediately tells us so.

Anyway, the more I think about it I think we will use underwear during the day and pull-ups at night.  I figure we will start this process around his 2nd birthday.  If not sooner.  I am in no rush and am not going to worry about it if he doesn't seem too interested but I figure he is obviously starting to be aware of his pooping and peeing and that is a good time to start thinking about potty training.

Otherwise, I am pretty much gonna wing it.  Wink
