Success after IF

Shiit. Infant carseat base has wiggled loose.

I has it professionally installed and inspected but that was 8 plus months ago at this point .. and with repeatedly taking the carrier/seat in and out - and an increasinly bigger baby!  It's wiggled loose and is now kind of sideways so needs to be "fixed" - we have a safeseat so he still fits and we were going to keep it for at least another month - and then get his convertible seat.  But I'm scared to mess with it!  The cop/inspector had it so tight and perfect.  Shiit!  (Taking it back to him is not an option - I have places to go!  And it would take several days or up to a week to get it back to the cop.)   I'm sure we can do it, we're not idiots, I just hate to mess with it.

Wheee!

  • It's really not hard. Just put ALL your weight on it, and pull the seatbelt or latch straps as tight as you can.  I literally have to kneel into my seats to get them tight.

The inspector who did your first installation was, well, an idiot.  The first thing you learn as a tech is that your most important job is to teach the parent how to install the seat.  I don't ever let a parent leave unless they have installed the seat themselves.

The two fixes for the loosening base are: use LATCH if you have it in your vehicle or use a locking clip with the regular seat belt.  Your seat should have come with a locking clip attached to either the seat or the base somewhere.  You can always get a new one at BRU as well.

Using a locking clip can be a little tricky, so if you can't use LATCH, I would definitely recommend making the time to see another tech to learn how to use one.  It will save you from having to reinstall the seat so frequently because the locking clip keeps the seat from tipping.

A proper installation means that the seat moves no more than 1" from side to side and front to back (be sure you're grabbing the seat at the belt path).

    Good luck!

Don't be afraid of your car seat!

Tightening it can only help. ?

I too would put both knees in the seat and pull HARD.

    Perfect fit!

    ?

You're gonna laugh at yourself when you realize how easy it is to tighten it back down.?

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.

    Ditto!

  • Re: the cop.  Just about every police dept (except for maybe a really small town) has at least one officer that's certified and it shouldn't take a week to find one.  Mine was loose after DH put the base back in wrong (and he's a cop, not seat certified).  I drove right up to the State Police barrack that my agency works with (it's right up the street), but both of the certified Troopers were off.  I then went right up to my DH's police dept and had another Deputy fix it (certified).  I felt like an idiot when "she" got right in and tightened the one strap.  Duh.  It's really easy.  She said that you should make sure it's tightened every month or so.  The constant in and out loosens it up.  I realized mine was loose when I turned a corner after stopping and Claire (and her seat) went up on their sides.  I LOST IT!!  She, on the other hand, thought it was hysterical and was laughing.

  • we have the same seat and ours is loose too.  And I'm scared to mess with it too.  This post was really helpful.  Not that we need it right now.  DD doesn't bend so we won't be using the seat for a while.

I always sit in the seat (hurts the behind) and then pull tight on the latch belt.
