We are naming our son Finnegan. Maybe we will make his birth announcement in the style of an Irish Pub Works for us.
We will call him Finn and probably never really use his full name, unless he is in trouble. I know a few girls named Finley so that has sort of ruined the name for me. I like it but wouldn't use it.
As far as middle names, I really like
Alexander (this was my first choice but lost out)
I wanted something that would sound good with Finn as well as Finnegan.

I would just do Finn or Finnegan. I think Finley is a boy's name but I think more girls are being named Finley than boys.
Ditto. One of DS's daycare buddies is Finn, just Finn. It is its own name; from the Irish "Fionn". But, if you feel you need a longer name, you might also consider Fintan.
I absolutely love both of those names with Fin as a nickname!! I was dying for Finley for our baby girl on the way, but DH wants a name with Sam in it. Definitely Finley for a girl and Finnegan for a boy.
I love that everyone thinks Finley sounds girly - um, it is a traditional boys name and in fact in the UK is incredibly popular for boys. It drives me crazy that people are using this for girls.
Another option is Finlay, instead of Finley.

i'm aware that finley is traditionally a boy's name, but that doesn't change the fact that, IMO, it sounds girly. i guess that's one of the unfortunate consequences of traditional boy names being used for girls.
honestly, most (but not all) names that end with "ley" sound girly to me.

It is a boys name, but I agree it sounds girly to me, hence the reason I choose it for my girl. I wanted a different name, something Irish and something not made up sounding. So I choose Finley. Which fits her beautifully.
MrsC-You know what I think is funny, that you come on here all the time saying Finley is a boys name, but most people think of a girl when they hear it!!!! And would rather use it as a girls name.

You can want to use it as a girls name, and that is fine. but IMO, and traditionally, it is a boys name. Lots of people on here want to use other boys names for girls too, and i would say the same thing. Just because you like a boys name for a girl doesn't mean I do. And funny, everyone I speak to when I say Finley in real life think boy. I don't think the bump is a good representation. Don't let it bother you that it is a boys name just because you used it for a girl.

We also had a hard time choosing between differing versions of "Finn"! I think in the end, if we use it, we'll go with Finnegan; only because I've heard of several people now who have used Finley for their daughters.
I'm not saying it's going to turn into a "boy-name-turned-girl-name" cross-over, but there could be a chance if you go with Finley for your DS that he could be in class with little girls with the same name...

Finley - seems feminine to me
Finnegan - sounds like an Irish pub
I like Finley, but I like just plain Finn best.
I agree with the others that Finnegan is a bit like an Irish pub (and the anti-nausea drug Phenergan).
ditto.

I think girl when I hear Finley.
Finnegan sounds like a last name to me.
out of the two, i would go with finnegan - finley sounds like a girl's name.

i was thinking to myself, "when have i ever commented on the name finley before?" LOL!

NO. These are both Irish first names!
