Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Were you induced?

If you were induced I was wondering how long the whole process took.  (I am already at 3 cm.)  My OB said she would let me  start having contractions and then come in to break my water.  How long does it take to start having contractions?  How long did it take until you started pushing?  I know everyone is different, I just want an idea of what others have gone through.

Any other advice?

Re: Were you induced?

  • Do you REALLY want to know?

Admitted Tuesday, had my c-section Friday afternoon. I had contraction as soon as they started the pitocin.

  • My water was already broken when the induction started, don't know if that makes a difference with timing.  I started pitocin at 5 pm, had the baby just before noon the following day.
  • It started having contractions within 15-30 minutes of them starting the pitocin. It took about 8 hours or so before they really became painful (we went REALLY slowly on the pitocin), and I started pushing 19 hours after the induction began. It was a long process for me,  but it's much shorter for a lot of women.

  • I was 2-3 cm when I was induced. They broke my water and my contractions started immediately. I started pushing 5 hours later, and pushed for 30 minutes. My whole labor was 5.5 hours

  • Short version:

-Induction with pitocin started @7am at 1cm and 80%.  I was showing contractions but not feeling them.

-Water broke at noon and felt contractions immediately.

-By 11pm I was 10cm and 100% and ready to push.

Just be prepared for a long wait and bring books, magazines, movies, laptop or whatever will keep you occupied.  Try to sleep during the wait.  Eat before you go if you can because most likely they will not let you eat once the induction starts.  Good Luck!

  • Admitted Sunday evening. Contrax started right away. Had C- Section Monday evening... Not nearly as bad as JAR, but terrible none the less.

Only get induced if medically needed.

  • Cervadil started on Tues night, Pitocin started Wed morn at 9:45; started having contractions very soon after. I didn't start pushing until 4:45 Thurs morn.

I was 3 cm.  They started me on Pitocin right away and I was having contrax within 30 mins maybe.  I have a birth story on the birth store board if you feel like looking for it.  I didn't get past 3-4 cms though.  My pelvis is misshapen, but they didn't know that until I got my c-section.
  • I loved every minute of it, I really did! Nothing to be afraid of!
  • Admitted Friday 2 PM (Cervadil), no contractions until Pitocin given at Saturday, 9 AM. Started pushing Saturday 8:24 PM, Ellie was born at 8:34 PM.

  • I was 3 cm and having contractions before they started - I wasn't feeling these, I just fely a little funny.  They started me on Pitocin around 11 PM, broke my water at 11:30.  Contractions really started to hurt around 2 AM so I had an epidural.  The epi actually helped me prgress to a 9 1/2 and I was pushing by 4 AM.  He was born at 5:08 AM.  Wasn't as long as I thought it would be, thank God!

  • I was 4 cm when I went for scheduled induction. I started pitocin at 9:00am, felt contractions within 10-15 minutes. Doctor broke water around 10:00 and I gave birth at 12:05pm.
  • Mine was similar to NManager.  I was also 4cm when I went in.  The pitocin was started at 9:30am and I was 6cm by 10:00am.  I wasn't checked again until 1:00pm when I was complete.  So for me it went pretty fast!  Good luck!

    honestly?

The induction took 34 hours from when I was admitted (at 2 cm) until I started pushing. I didn;t start contracting until about 24 hours in. I started pushing 34 hours later. 4 hours after started pushing, they prepped me for a c-section.

My induction worked...I got to 10 cm and depsite the annoyance of not being able to sleep b/c of the monitors, it was fine. However, I would not do it again.

"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind." - Kurt Vonnegut
  • I was admitted around 4pm on Monday, misoprostol inserted at 6pm, 11pm, & 1 am, when checked at 1am, water broke, contractions in full swing, hypercontracting (fun!), no pitocin needed, 10cm at 9:45, DD arrived at 10:10 am Tuesday. I was "in labor" for about 10 hours.

  • I was admitted at 10 a.m. on Sunday, dilated to 3 & 70 percent, misoprostol inserted at 12 p.m., pitocin started at 2 p.m., pitocin "cranked up" at 5 p.m., broke my water at 7:30, fully dilated and effaced by 9 p.m. started pushing at 10 p.m. baby born at 10:42 p.m.

Overall, I was very fortunate with an easy L&D.

  • My doctor had me come in at 8:30 in the morning i was already 4-5 cm dialated and my contractions were 6-7 min apart on their own.  She broke my water at 9:00 am i think they gave me the pitocin once i finished a bag of fluid (or maybe the fluid was the pitocin can't remember already) then a few hours later i had my epi and around 5 the doctor came in and said the baby was stuck i never got past 7 cm so i had to have a c section in the end.  Don't be scared though it's not that bad.
  • First one: 12 hours

    2nd time: 6hours

    3rd time: 6 hours

My water broke on the first one about 6hours into it (while I was getting the epidural--LOL), water was broken the 2nd one about 3 hours into it, 3rd one she broke the water very soon after I got there (less than 1 hour).
