I am not sure what kind of professional I need, but I need some guidance. Jackson has reflux and after about two weeks at home, someone told me that it sounded like an oversupply problem as well, so I took steps to correct that. Now, I think I may have over-corrected, because he sometimes eats every hour or hour and a half! I know I should be nursing on demand, but when he take 20-40 minutes per feeding, that begins to get a little ridiculous. Also, sometimes, like this morning after his 5:00 a.m. feed, he slept for 4 hours straight. Perfect! Why can't I get him to do that at night? Last night I even gave him a bottle for his 11:00 pm "dream feed" so I could know that he had a full belly. Still, by 1:20, he woke up hungry again! It just seems like he should be going longer than that. He gets frustrated during feedings, which makes me think he is not getting enough milk.
Do I need a lactation consultant, an exorcist, or what?? Any suggestions on the type of help to seek out?
Re: I need to channel the Baby Whisperer for help!
Will is 3 months old and he still eats every 2 - 2 1/2 hours during the day. Sometimes it's frustrating, but the best thing I ever did was learn how to nurse him in a wrap or a sling. Now I can do other things while he's nursing and I'm not stuck on the couch. He has reflux too, so I think Mrs.Rosie is right saying that a lot of reflux babies need to eat less more often.
I think it was around 8 weeks before he started sleeping for a good long stretch at night. Until then it was up every 3 hours for us. DH helped with feedings then and I also would pull him into bed with us and nurse him laying down. It helped a TON because even if I wasn't sleeping, I didn't have to wake up fully and sit up.
It gets better - I promise!
