3rd Trimester

Back Pain..?

I am 28 weeks and 1day. I have been having terrible back pain for about a month. They're not cramp-like, just the typical back pain from my uterus stretching outwards. After sitting or standing for long periods of times, my back pain is really out of control. At work I am on my feet alot, constantly walking, but when I sit for too long, it still hurts...But it's way too early for me to go on maternity leave, I just cant win..Tongue Tied But Its sooooo hard to get comfortable nowadays...=(....Anyone else?

Re: Back Pain..?

  • I am absolutely miserable because of this. I thought it would get better now that I'm on mat leave, but its worse. I can barely even walk sometimes because of a pinched nerve, and I'm really worried that I'm not going to be able to labour effectively (I planned on walking around a lot, using the showers/birthing ball, and changing positions) if I can't even stand :(

  • Well, lucky for you, you dont have much longer to go. Me on the other hand?....Stick out tongue..lol...Good luck with everything. =)

  • I get a similar pain if I sit or stand for too long, so I try to mix it up and move around a bit.

  • Yeah I definately have sympathy for you....Ive been trying for weeks to find a good balance of sitting and standing intervals and nothing works and some days it just feels like my back is goig to break in two.
  • I am on my way to physical therapy this morning - it has changed my life in the past 8 weeks.  Seriously.  I am a dentist and I was hunching over people + uterus = PAIN.

One trick at home that I learned: put a tennis ball between your back and the wall and roll up against it.  You'll feel like an idiot, but it really helps.  My PT said to make sure it is a tennis ball so that it has some give and doesn't cause more problems.

See if your doc can refer you - I have coverage for this even though I don't for most things, so it can't hurt to ask!

  • In the same boat. If i sit or stand too long.. or even sometimes when i lay. I had my dr appointment on friday and we discussed Sciatica. And he gave me a few tips to help even tho nothing really helps take it away. But he said to see a physical therapist and then try massages along with warm baths and such.

I try to keep myself moving around and just try to push thru the pain. So far its been ok and working. But he said its very common especially in 3rd tri.

Good luck to you and just remember only a few more wks left till your LO is here!!!

If it'll help, i am willing to feel like an idiot.lol Hey whatever works ya know? Big Smile And I will be sure to check with my doc and insurance company to see if PT is an option for me and if it's covered. And even if it's not, if they'll help me rid some of this pain, I'll just have to pay for service, or maybe take back my LO's crib and dresser and stroller and PnP....? Naaaah....Not an option...lol....=) Thanks so much. Good luck with everything =)
