2nd Trimester

Are you registering for baby books?

Just curious as I'm on the fence with this one.

Edited: Referring to books for the baby, not parenting books.

Re: Are you registering for baby books?

  • No.  I am going to get them from the library since they have like every book written!

  • Nope, never did. I'd rather have that money spent toward diapers or something I really need. Some baby books are just pure junk, or only half-truths. I think if you end up experiencing an issue you truly need help with, your pediatrician is there. But if you enjoy having a parenting book, then try to find one that suits you and your lifestyle.

  • i think i will, at least for the classics i grew up with(goodnight moon, velveteen rabbit, etc). if anything so i can keep track of which ones i want to buy for LO!
  • Probably not. My mom was talking about having a wishing well for books at the shower but even if she doesn't, I sort of think of books as similar to baby outfits- people will buy what they think is cute/nice/etc even if it isn't on the registry. I know I tend to tack a book I loved as a child on with a gift even if it;s not on the list.
  • not sure i misunderstood the question, but i thought you meant books you read to baby!
  • we are on amazon.  we want to have an awesome library, and we've been collecting for awhile, but still have quite a few more favorites before we're done.  if people don't want to buy them, they don't have to, but i'd like to give them the option.

It's funny b/c as a guest at a shower a few years back we were asked on the invite to bring a book to start the baby's library and I was totally put off (had forgotten about it and had to run out again at the last minute, felt I'd already spent quite a bit on the regular gift already etc etc.) Now that I am the mom to be I think it's a terrific idea =) but we're not doing that.

  • I don't think I am.  Anyone remember book orders from elementary school.  As a teacher I get points and can get free points to use toward books I want.  So I think I'm just going to build my library as I go.  But I did buy some Frog and Toad books already.

  • no, I bought all 3 of my baby books for all 3 kids myself before the 2nd trimester. I like to fill them out as my pregnancy goes along, I fill in little things here and there on the blank pages in the back and put belly pics in, the pregnancy test, the ultrasound pics, etc. ok wait I"m confused, do you mean the baby book like I described up there? or boardbooks etc like goodnight moon, love you forever, stuff like that? like actual story books? if so, then no also. my 1st baby shower for my 1st child we had, bring your fave book for the baby but I ended up with 8 copies of goodnight moon and no gift receipts lol.
  • we did! we registered for several books at land of nod. i want to start building the library and i figured it gave shower guests more options in terms of gifts to buy.
  • Yup! Already did! I registered w/ amazon but only for books. I am only picking one other store to register at. The main reason is to keep track of gift books. As we get them, even if they are from another source, I'll take them off the registry.

Plus - I'm a teacher and I have a feeling I'll be getting some books from colleagues.

  • I put some of the ones I grew up on and some of the one's the kids at the daycare I used to work at really enjoyed.  My family likes to do gift baskets along with gifts so I wanted some options for them.

  • I did at Amazon bc you can get then really cheap on there. I didn't just pick random ones though, only ones I grew up with (and my parents didn't keep) or I have seen before. Hopefully I get some of them but I really don't mind buying them. I'm big on books more than toys.
