Who is not doing childbirth classes?

I waited too long and now am not able to get in classes before my EDD Embarrassed

! They do have weekend classes (9-3) Sat and Sun available, but who wants to sit in a class for 6 hours two days in a row???? I am thinking about just doing the hospital tour and winging it! Am I crazy?

Nope..I never took any with DD...and honestly between the WTEWYE book, and the nurses...everything was fine....

I am thinking of not doing them either. I mean really do you think when push comes to shove you will remember anyways?

My neighbor took them, and she said really the only thing she liked about them was the hospital tour. Everything else you learn goes out the window and instinct just kicks in. So I think I may just savy myself the $40, and buy our LO something instead

I was thinking of not taking any classes. If anything I feel like I'd rather take a parenting class than a birth class! I'm thinking that the chances of me remembering what I learned in the middle of childbirth are slim-to-none. Between watching baby shows, reading books, and talking to my doctor I think I'll be okay. I mean how did women do it before they started offering classes?

I'm not taking them this time around since this is my third baby....However, I do recommend at least reading up on relaxation techniques if you haven't already. With my first, I took a Lamaze class, even though I planned to get an epidural. I did end up having an epidural, but it didn't work. I felt a lot of pain. I had a 19-hour induction with 2 hours of pushing at the end. The biggest thing that got me through it was the Lamaze breathing techniques I had learned. So even if you plan to get an epidural, it's good to know some alternate techniques just in case. Epidurals don't always work, or they don't totally work, or you don't have time to get one before the baby is born...etc.!

Nope, not crazy! I didn't take any childbirth classes, but I did the hospital tour and a breastfeeding class. Both of those were extremely beneficial, btw! I figured whatever I learned in class, I would forget during the actual labor process, and I knew the nurses would be there for me. And honestly, so much of how I dealt with labor was instinctual, that I don't regret not taking the class at all. Oh, and I went completely natural so it can be done!

Im not, I asked my doc about it and he said that unless I wanted to go natural (which I don't) then it isn't a problem. Even then, he said, that your body just knows what to do. Along with that and guidance from the staff at the hospital everything will be just fine.

I'm in the same boat as you. There are none available until right before my due date, and I doubt I'll make it that far because of how this pregnancy has gone.

I will be reading and asking a lot of questions on here.

Honestly, my sister (who was my birthing coach with DS) and I spent the entire class session laughing at the lady, and I got very little out of it. I think doing your own research, being in sync with your Dr, and being willing to just go with the flow and realize that your birthing process is probably not going to go exactly as you have planned, you should be fine. I did the weekend class, though, and personally, I was glad to get it out of the way. Though it sucked to sit on the floor that long!

Never took any and don't regret it a bit. Everyone I have ever talked to said they didn't learn anything new, but their husband did. We didn't take any because we didn't want to. DH caught on quickly after we had Addie, so we were happy we didn't waste the money on it.
