Anyone else's baby's soft spot dented in?

Over the past few days I have noticed that Caroline's soft spot on the top of her head is kind of dented in.  I never noticed it before, so I know it wasn't always like that.  I just read in my one baby book to call the doctor if you notice the soft spot dipping in or bulging out.  Now I'm worried something is wrong.  :(  Just curious of anyone else has experienced this as baby grew.  Thanks.

    Emma's is not but I heard it can mean a baby is dehydrated.  I would call the pedi to make sure it is nothing.  It could just be the head growing and it looking different.  Hope its nothing!

    I just read that online, that it could mean dehydration.  I don't know if I should call the doc on call or just wait till Monday.  She is eating fine and has a lot of wet diapers.

    I am a nervous nellie so I would call but having wet diapers and eating fine is a good sign. I used to get paranoid that Emma's was too and dh said it wasnt and my mom said it wasnt either.  Maybe get a second opinion? I am sure it is fine.

    DH says he doesn't think it is any different,but I know it is.  There is a definite dip in it now that I never felt before.  I'm the one who bathes her all the time, so I would have noticed when washing her hair.  Now I'm just so worried that something is wrong.  :(

    Try not to panic! You said she is having wet diapers and eating which is GREAT signs.  Just call for reassurance, you will worry until you do so.  I know I would!

    Stephanie, sometimes Andrew's was dipped in a little too.  It would flucuate day to day.  I asked the pedi about it one time and he said it was fine. 

    Severely dipped in is something to be concerned with as it can be dehydration. 

     If she's having enough wet diapers, seems to be eating as normal and isn't acting sick (no fever etc), I wouldn't stress about it this weekend.  Maybe call on Monday.

    Thanks you guys.  I keep going over and looking at it, and it isn't severely dipped in, just more dented than what has been normal for her.  I did have them in the car yesterday to drive to and from DH's work, and it was hot out but they only had onesies on and I had the air cranked up, so I hope they weren't too hot.  I'll keep track of her diapers to make sure there are enough wets, if not I'll call the on call doc.  But I'm pretty sure she is ok, she is acting totally normal....playing and sleeping as much as usual.  I guess it just scared me that the books all say that it dipping in means dehydration.

    I say not to stress but when it was going on with Andrew I did the same thing.  ;)

    If you think you should call, then call.  Never doubt your mommy instinct. 

    This kind of explains how it flucuates.

    "In healthy babies, the fontanelle changes fullness with position. Sitting or standing can make it feel sunken. Lying down and crying can make it fuller. However, in a baby who is not well, those same changes in fullness may indicate dehydration, increased pressure or even infection. The differences in fontanelle fluctuations in a healthy baby and a sick one are too subtle for parents to assess ? and you shouldn?t try. That is why the doctor examining a baby will pay close attention to the fontanelle. "

    DD's was sometimes slightly dented in - not enough for the casual person to notice. ?Our pedi said it was normal, that most people's heads are not perfectly round. ?You can kinda see DD's head in my sig pic. ?He said to worry when there was a pronounced dent - one that could hold water in it.

    I did not experience this but I heard it can mean that baby is dehydrated...maybe feed her more? I don't think its a big deal at all, but you might want to call the pedi just in case.

    This happens to Catalina sometimes. Her pedi said it's totally normal as long as she's having an appropriate number of wet diapers and is acting like her usual self.  When they say sunken in, it's significant - the on-call RN I talked to when I first noticed it (at midnight, of course!) said "significant" was about an inch!
