How many "NB" clothes?

I'm not having a shower or anything, so we really need to prepare for those first few weeks out of the hospital ourselves. How many NB outfits do you think we need? I know it depends on the size of the baby, so I'm just curious what your experiences are.

BTW, we're both very tall people, so it's likely our baby will be big as well.

My baby didn't wear newborn AT ALL....and we had some really cute newborn outfits! :0( But my baby was really big. If you think you will probably have a large baby, I wouldn't get more than 3-5 newborn outfits. If your baby turns out being small, you could always send someone out to get a few more outfits if you think you need them.

Adelyn has lived in onesies since she was born. It has been above 90 degrees everyday so that's all we have needed. I survived with probably 12 onesies. She was 9lb 9.3 oz when she was born. She could fit into 0-3 month gerber onesies. They run really small.

IMO, you don't really NEED newborn size clothes - it's nice to have them because for the first couple of weeks they'll probably fit better, but if your LO is wearing a onesie that is slightly too big, it's not a big deal. When my DS was born he was 7lb6oz and 20 inches, and NB stuff is already getting to be too small (he's almost 4 weeks).

We didn't do anything NB clothes. 0-3 mos clothes were a little big at first but babies grow sooo fast that I don't think it's a big deal if they are a little big.

I had about 3 outfits and a few onesies. She wore them for about 2 - 2 1/2 weeks. The 0-3 stuff was kinda big but the NB was just too small.

How cold do you keep your a/c? DD was in nb for the first 6 weeks, but she outgrew footed sleepers pretty fast. I keep it warm enough in our house that she just wears rompers/dresses/onesies. I keep a blanket with me in case we go somewhere a bit chilly. I really liked the onesies that folded over her hands as a newborn.

None! We had about 2 outfits and 5-6 onesies, but he didn't fit in any of them. He was born 10lbs 4oz but dropped to 9lbs 8oz and still didn't fit into them.

Most of DD's NB sizes are still really big on her, so she'll be in them for a few weeks more I think. They thought I would be having a baby well over 8lbs, but she ended up being a little over 6lbs.

DS was in NB clothes for 6 weeks... he was 7 lbs 4 oz at birth. The NB on him were huge for weeks, totally swimming in them, but we did have him in 0-3 stuff rolled up too because we didn't have that much NB stuff and we went through so many clothes in the very beginning because he kept peeing everywhere. He didn't wear any of his onesies because I was too scared to put anything over his head because it was soooo floppy. I would get footed sleepers and side snap tees. I would get at least 4-5 of each.

I would say get at least 10-15 NB outfits/onesies... that averages at least 2-3 per day since babies go through a lot of clothes. I change DD twice a day- once in the morning to get dressed and once in the evening for bedtime. I have noticed though that the NB sizes do differ- the Gerber and Granimals brands fit DD perfectly but the Circo brand NB sizes are falling off of her (and I double checked the tag to make sure it was NB).

Both DH and I are larger, and DH was 8lbs13oz at birth, and everyone (MWs and ultrasound techs included) thought we were going to have a big baby.

But he is a peanut! He was only 6lbs 15oz, 20 in. and he still fits into NB clothes even though he's over 8lbs now. 0-3 clothes were huge on him at the beginning, and even now he's still swimming in them.

Having said that, we only had about 8 NB onsies and 2 sleepers, and we've been fine, since he can wear 0-3 in a pinch. I didn't really see the need to get outfits for a newborn.

i would get one or two onesie type outfits - we only had 0-3 and then dd came a month early and went down to 4 lb 15 oz at her smallest - we had to run out and get some stuff to bring her home in!! nb stuff fit her until she was about 13 weeks so you never can tell - buy a few nb and then if you need more go get them...

My little guy was born at 8lbs 7oz an the onesies and jammies are hat he wears. We have a few cute onesies, but gerber brand runs small...he's not even 2 weeks old and he already outgrew his nb size. You really want easy to change stuff...we also love the sleepsacks. they are wonderful in the middle of the night. I have one outfit,but I haven't even put it on him yet...besides,if you are having a boy, they wet through things SO quickly!

DD was 6 lbs 4 oz and still doesn't fit into any of her NB sized clothes. The only thing that fits her are Gerber NB onsies and preemie clothes. Gerber runs really small. It has been very hot since she has been born so she wears onsies and Carter's preemie pants pretty much all the time. At night we use a Halo sleepsack with a swaddle over the onsie. I would suggest getting a few NB sized things and then seeing how big LO is. You can make a trip to the store and purchase more NB sizes if you need them or buy preemie clothes like we had to.

My little one was 9 pounds 11 ounces at birth and fit into newborn stuff for at least a month. She's a pretty slow grower, though. At 2 months she was only 11 lbs 13 oz. She still actually fits in some of her Carter's newborn onesies (they run really big). I had about 10-15 newborn onesies and 4 or 5 sleepers. I'm glad I did. I like having my kids' clothes fit them, I don't like that way-too-big look. I got cheap clothes at the Carter's outlet and Target, so it didn't break the bank at all.

DH and I are tall too. I'm 5' 10" and he's 6'2". We thought we were going to have a big baby too and then I delivered 3 weeks early. She is still wearing NB clothes. Although, the Gerber onsies are small and she wore 0-3 right away in those.

ds wore newborn for 3 weeks, we just used sleep n plays on him, I had 10 of them cause it seemed like I was constantly having to change him.

DH and I are tall and our little porker was born at 7 lbs 9.5 oz, 20 inches. He's in NB one month later, but will probably be growing out of these clothes in the next two weeks. I'd recommend having 3 outfits washed (one pack of onesies), then 6-9 on standby in case you need more. If you don't need them you can return them, but if you do you'll have them and won't need to run out to the store.

Alyssa was three weeks early and 5lbs 13oz. She was in preemie for three weeks or so. She is in NB now and weighs about 7lbs. 8oz. They still fit well on her.

I suggest you get two or three outfits/onsies (BRU sells a brand that offers 5 onsies for 7.99, which is a good deal) to get you through the first few days home. Then you can run out and get more outfits in the appropriate size.

We didn't have anthing small enough to fit Alyssa, so DH stayed in the car with her when she was 3 days old so I could grab a few outfits at BRU. And don't forget that you may get clothes as gifts after you have the baby.
