Babies: 0 - 3 Months

..so you are at Walmart...

in the parking lot with a cart full of bags, and LO in his/her carseat.

You get to the car, what do you do next?

1. Turn the car on and put LO in the car while you put the bags in the car. Then you push the cart back to the cart holding station...leaving LO in the car with the keys in the ignition because it is turned on (too hot to leave him in the car without it on).

2. Leave LO in the cart while you put the bag in the car, then push the cart over to the cart holding station and carry LO back to the car.

3. Some other great option i have not yet thought about?

I feel like the best option would be to go ahead and put him in the car, but then i fear someone coming and jumping in the car and driving away with him. So what do you all do?

Re: ..so you are at Walmart...

  • I leave DD in the cart until I am I done... or park right next cart holder things.

  • I always park right next to a cart corral for just this reason.  Then, I can put DS in the car and not worry about someone driving away with him.

  • I don't put him in the car until I'm getting in, too.
  • I always try to park next to a cart corral
  • I'm usually wearing DD but I put everything in the car, then I push the cart back and then I put her in the car. She is with me 100% of the time because I fear that someone will run off with her.

  • I usually wear DS at stores to avoid this situation :)  (In that case I load bags, put away cart, then put DS in carseat.)  But when I do bring him in in his carseat I try to park right next to the cart corral, even if it's really far from the store - so then I put DS in car, load bags, then push cart into corral (I can usually accomplish this without moving away from the car, LOL).

  • I try to park next to the cart corral too. But even when I don't I do the same thing. Turn on the car and the a/c. Load car. Put cart away. Carry LO to car, put her in, get in myself, drive away. It is a lot of steps, but I feel that LO is with me at all times and the car is cooling down esp in this heat.
  • My one fear about putting LO in car first (besides being carjacked/kidnapped) is that somehow the car door will swing shut and now she is locked inside, with me on the outside.
  • I don't shop walmart... but I park next to cart corrals.  Since it has been so hot I start the car, but keep baby out of the car until it can cool off anyway.  He stays next to me while I unload and the car cools.

  • I park next to the cart corral with it on the drivers side.

  • I don't shop at Wal-Mart either.  But, at Target I park next to the cart corral.
  • I use the remote start to start the car so it cools down, put her in and lock the door.
  • We have an auto-starter. So I start the car as I walk out the door of a store. I leave LO in the cart/stroller (unless weather is bad) while I put packages in the back of the car. Then I put LO in the car. I shut the door (I have the keys and car is running with AC or I supose heat in the winter). Sometimes I put LO in the car first and then put packages away and put cart away. He is fine.

I guess I don't have the fear of someone stealing him because if he is in the car, then the doors are locked and the car is running but I have the keys.

I park next to the cart corrals.

In the winter, DD goes into the car first, then I load the purchases.

Now, I load the purchases with DD in the cart, put DD in the car, then return the cart leaving the car door open.  Since I'm parked next to the cart corral, I can see DD the whole time and am never more than 3 ft from the car.

I didn't realize that this was an issue that only occurs at Wal-Mart.

    LOL!

  • I always park right next to the cart station. ?I put DS in the car and turn on the a/c but leave the drivers door open so I don't accidently lock him in.?
  • This post is hilarious! I think I've tried most of the above. I usually stick with parking next to the cart holder. I leave DS in the cart while I load the bags in. Then I push the cart back to the return and carry Owen back to the car.
