Convertible carseats

I didn't think I'd need to look into this so soon but Ethan is nearly 18lbs and our infant seat only goes to 22lbs.  I'm sure we have a little time to wait but I'd like to start looking for sales/deals.

What seat did you choose? Reasons why you chose one over another?

We're considering at the Britax Roundabout vs the Marathon.  Is the Marathon a lot bigger?  We have 2 small sedans.

    We actually bought the Fisher Price Safe Voyage, which is a Marathon with a different name (and therefore a lower price). It fit rear facing in my tiny Nissan Sentra. Admittedly it was a snug fit, and it's behind my seat which is up pretty far, but it's been fine. I also got the Eddie Bauer 3 in 1 for my mom's car, which is the Evenflo Trimph Elite, or one of the other highly rated models, but I snagged it for my own car because it felt like it would be more comfy for Adam. Not sure if I like it better than the Safe Voyage though. Time will tell if I keep it or switch back to the Safe Voyage.

    Haven't bought them yet, but I think I'm going with a Roundabout for my car (which will be used most often) and an Evenflo Titan for DH's car (which DD is in 15 minutes a week).  Evenflo got good ratings and is just cheaper, and I didn't want to buy 2 Britax's due to cost.  I have heard great things about the Roundabout and that Britax is hands-down the best, which is why I'm getting that for my car.  it's smaller and I believe a bit cheaper than the marathon.  I think you're fine with the roundabout unless your child is in the 90th percentile in size.

    We each have one of the Marathon's in our cars---and we both drive Corollas.  It's a snug fit, but I don't think it would work for DH if he was any taller (he's 5'9").  And it's only for a year---once she's forward-facing, space with the carseat won't be an issue.

    They always have some Britax's on sale, plus anything over $100 is free shipping, and everything I've ordered from them I've received within 3 days of ordering.  And no sales tax since they only have a store in NJ!

    The Marathon fit into my car (Subaru Legacy) rear facing but no one could sit in the front seat.  The Roundabout fit perfectly, it definetly isn't as big as the Marathon.  We ended up putting the Marathon in my husbands SUV.

    We're looking into this too, and trying to decide between a Britax or a Recaro.

    We have the Safe Voyage, too. Still not sure what we'll get for N for when he switches, but we need to start looking because we moved A at just over 6 months I think! Yikes! We'll probably just get a Marathon and call it a day if we can get 2 of them rear facing in my back seat, and I think we can.

    Oh, and especially if he is trending on the bigger or especially taller side and if you possibly want him to stay rear facing for as long as possible, the Marathon is definitely much more the way to go(if it fits in your car, of course!). The Marathon shell is 3.5" taller than the Roundabout, so that would give you a longer amount of time to stay rear facing if he's still within the weight limits. And, in general, it's up to 65lbs where the Roundabout is 40, so you could keep him in it forward facing a ton longer and not have to buy another seat for a much longer time. I liked the money-saving aspect:)

    I loveour Evenflo Triumph. I don't think I could ever go to using s convertible with the adjusting strap in the middle between the legs. The turn wheel on the side rocks.

    If I could afford it, I'd probably get a Sunshine Kids Radian 80 so that I would have to keep buying carseats every year.

    Traveling Tikes has Marathons for 199 right now and free shipping.

     

    They also came out with a Roundabout 50, which is basically the Marathon, just cheaper.

    We have 2 Recaros and love them.  I drive a Corolla and it fits rear facing well, DH drives a Durango so I know it won't be a problem.  We have been using the one in my car for about 6 months and DS loves it as he sits a little higher and can see out.  We got our in the black, probably not a good idea since I have black interior, however we recently got my windows tinted so it helps.  The Recaro is rated as well as the Britax but you usually can get it on sale at around $200.
