I really dont look 12 weeks pregnant maybe cause of my lack of weight gain. Someone told me I was actually getting thinner. What can I do to start gaining healthy weight????? Im actually scared that Im not giving baby the nutrients it needs. Crying

Re: Im losing weight :(

  • How much weight have you lost in total? Are you having morning sickness?I have no personal experience since I was on the other side of the scale ( always gaining) but maybe its not that bad since many woman lose weight at the?beginning?but its due to the severe morning sickness and teh baby still does well.?

?Just try to eat the stuff you like and crave. Hope you get more ideas.??Don't forget your vitamins.?

  • just talk to your doctor.  I lost 19lbs my first trimester.  I wasn't on the smaller side, but the doctor did tell me that the baby would not suffer, only I would.  hang in there!

  • I am having really bad morning sickness. I think of food i get queezy and i throw up. I take my vitamins everynight before I go to bed because the iron makes me nauseous. I dont crave anything at all. I eat cottage cheese which I seem to hold down pretty well and some other random things. I dont eat the frequent small meals because my job forbids food in the salon even though they know im pregnant. so i have to sneak food in there and water. dont get me started on that subject. makes me mad. I havent consumed anything all day but a slice of blueberry coffee cake at around noon which was 3pm your time since im 3 hours behind. Im going to make dinner in a few minutes but just thinking about it makes me sick. The excess saliva in my mouth is making me nauseous every single day. can you believe im actually spitting!? Its too much for me. I need to gain weight! How about Ensure? Can I drink that? Is that safe??? Since I cant seem to hold my food down im desperate!
  • Eating constantly throughout the day was the only way I could keep anything down my first trimester.  Is there any way you could sneak food - like put a handful of cheerios in each pocket to eat in between co workers looking?  You are almost out of the first trimester and I promise that you will feel better soon.  My morning sickness ended about 15 weeks.  My savior for dinner was a baked potato.  When I was feeling good I would sneak some veggies or cheese on there.  Other times I just ate it plain.  Smoothies were also a good friend of mine.  Not sure about ensure - you should be able to call your OB and ask.

  • have you tried ginger ale instead of water? Drinking too much water made me feel worst so I managed with crackers and ginger ale. I am so sorry that you are having a hard time at work in terms of food. That doesn't make it easy at all but try to at least have some crackers at hand.?
  • so sorry you're not feeling well. like pp, ginger ale helps alot. You need protein, so it's good that you're eating cottage cheese, try to add some fruit to it like pineapple or sliced peaches. whey protein drinks mixed made with lowfat milk and even some frozen yogurt and berries are easy to keep down, just make sure it doesn't have any artificial sweeteners. Rachel's idea is good, put some dry cereal, a granola bar, or mixed nuts in your pocket and munch on it between meals.
  • i couldn't eat...at all!  Zofran was my lifeline.  not alll insurances will cover it, mine would only give me 10 pills every 30 days.

  • I lost ten pounds the first few months. Don't worry, you'll start gaining once you feel better. I agree with the post about eating all day. That helped me a lot. I carried a bag full of animal crackers. I would eat a couple throughout the day and that helped keep me from feeling sick. If I let myself get hungry then I would feel sick and not want to eat.

  • i lost 15 lbs the first tri... and then gained freaking 40 lbs quickly after.  unless the dr says something, i wouldn't worry about it!!  and you're taking your pnv, right?  it's ok to indulge in your cravings, just make sure you're drinking water and staying away from the bad stuff.  and try not to gain 40 lbs lol
  • It's normal...I lost about 20 lbs my first trimester, didn't gain anything the 2nd, and now at 38 weeks tomorrow, only gained 6 lbs (which I'm still technically negative weight, b/c the baby's current weight is 7 lbs according to last weeks u/s, plus blood, placenta, fluid, etc.) My doctor is not worried.

I completely forgot about Zofran - it saved me!  That stuff was amazing.  If your insurance doesn't cover it it might be worth getting at least one prescription of it and paying out of pocket.  It worked miracles.

  • alot of women lose wieght when pregnant. it's crazy but true. Morning sickness really sucks! crackers, ginger candy or ale helped me and so did these lolipops that are only behind the counter at the pharmacy basically vitamin B12 but in a yummy candy. also if it's too bad you can take zofran (expensive) or phenergan but it makes you sleepy....it helped me with both the MS and the insomnia.

    good luck!

  • I agree w/the ladies.  MS really sucks...if your Dr isn't worried I wouldn't worry either.  The only way I dealt with my MS is sleeping through it.  I was like a zombie at work and slept when I was home.  I only ate mashed potato & grilled cheese...for breakfast was cottage cheese.
  • Just keep you Dr informed. I lost 12lbs in my 1st tri which I really didn't have. You will gain it all back as time goes on.
  • Maybe you should ask your Dr. and don't listen to people that tell you you don't look pregnant. I started gaining weight by week 13 (i think that is when I gained the first 3 pounds) and I didn't start looking pregnant until I was like 5 months.

I gained 20 pounds during the whole pregnancy and I was also concerned about it until my Dr. told me that he wasn't concerned because not everybody gaines 25-35 pounds and I was eating well and healthy.

Ask your Dr on your next appt for suggestions on how to get more nutrients or eat a more balanced diet. Many people loose weight during the first trimester and this is perfectly normal. I wouldn't worry too much about it if your Dr is not concerned.
