The impossible job hunt with a bump

I have been trying to find a part time job for the summer until the school year starts up again. It's just every interview I have gone to they seem to have noticed that my bump is showing. It just doesn't seem fair that just because I'm pregnant means I can't work. So frustrating!!!!! Anyone else having this problem??

  • same here, but you can not be discriminated against because you are pg..

  • Yeah, and in Alec? You are gonna have a hard time. :(

Wear larger tops and looser pants. Stick out yer @$$ so your belly doesn't stick out as much. Wear a tank top under shirts to conceal, and if you have a belly band wear that under it all to tighten. Practice not having your hands on your tummy. Wear a lower cut top to reveal the twins to detract from the belly.

  • Maybe you can look into retail like maternity stores?
  • Thanx for the ideas!! I will try :) I just wish my small little midwestern town had a bigger selection of maternity clothes :)
  • What about trying a temp agency to do basic office admin work?  Most of that would be off your feet and perhaps they would care less that you are pregnant?
  • I can understand.  Even though I have a job (a job that I'm not too fond of but a job none the less), I got my college degree in May and wanted to find a job in my field right away or at least start looking.  With being pregnant, I didn't think my chances would be that great so I decided to stick with what I have right now and look after the babies are born.  I hope that you are able to find something though......GL!

This is BS.  While a company can't say, "we are not hiring you because you are pg" or "we are firing you because you are pg", they absolutely can and will discriminate again you...they just will never tell you to your face or put in writing what the real reason is.  It's not right, but it's life.

  • I live in MN too. :)

I'm having a hard time finding a job too, not because my bump is showing, but because I'm too honest and tell them right away. It seems to be that it has stopped employers from having any interest in me. Of course they can't blatantly say they don't want you bc you're pg, but they can easily think of another dumb excuse to use. Blah! I've been looking for a retail job, but most people won't even take my resume or give an app. The ones that do say they'll "keep it on file" since they're not hiring.

  • I'm trying to look for a part-time job for the rest of my life LOL. I thought I was going to be one of the mommies that even with kids would want to go back to work, but now that I'm actually on the baby boat, I don't want to.....but we need both incomes, so I'm hoping and praying for a part-time job with a good enough salary for me to do it. But it's hard....you know, cause I'm pregnant
