polyvisol with iron

This stuff is rancid smelling - even from across the room.  YUCK.  My pedi insists the girls have it because they were preemies (35w2d).  Did you have to give your (preemie) twins this vitamin, and if yes, for how long?  And, do you know if there is an alternative that isn't so yucky?

Re: polyvisol with iron

  • Yes we had to give the boys this stuff back when they were little.  That stuff stains like nobody's business.  If i remember correctly the boys used it until they were around 6 months.

  • YES...my girls are 30 weekers and we have to give them these....I just put it in their nighttime bottle. Shockingly enough I think they like the taste of it...they are HORRIBLE eaters and that's their best bottle.  I'm not sure how long she wants them on them....we have our 12 month appt. on 7/16 and I intend to ask her this q.
  • Mine were on it for 2 years. They were 30 weekers. Now we do the My First Flintstones.
  • Our girls just started on this. ?So far they act like they like it, but then they gag on it. ?I have no idea how long they're supposed to be on it.
  • We only had to give it for as long as they got booby milk, once we switched to formula the Pedi said to stop as the formula had all that they need.

  • my girls were born at 36 weeks and 4 days and they are taking this.  They like the taste also.  Our pedi said due to the lack of vitamin D in breast milk he wanted them on it.  Not sure how long.
