Depends or hospital pads and throw away undies?

Our doula and birth instructor recommended Depends for the lochia post-birth.  I just can't imagine wearing disposable undies is comfortable but then again I'm not sure if comfort is even an option post birth anyway...  So have any of you heard the same and what are you planning to do?

  • I can't imagine wearing depends (esp. after my c/s! lol) - I had no issues with the hospital pads/nets.  They were great.

  • Hospital pads and the mesh underwear and then throwaways were always enough for me. ?I really didn't have to throwaways the throwaways, once I got out the mesh undies from the hospital, it wasn't quite so bad.
  • I've heard a lot of great things about the disposable mesh ones.  I feel like Depends would be way more uncomfortable.

  • I did the mesh hospital underwear and gigantic pads and then switched to grannies and gigantic pads when I got out of the hospital. I bled heavily after DS and for a looong time- it sucked. I am NOT looking forward to that again.
  • I tried both with my previous child and the depends were much more comfortable.  I'm going depends all the way this time!
  • I am planning on wearing whatever the hospital gives me.  I am bringing old grannies so if something happens to them and I have to trash them I will not be upset.  It was decided yesterday that I am probably going to have a c/s so I am searching for something that will not bother my belly and I think grannies might be the way to go.

  • I'm going to do pads... the ones from the hospital and then I bought some of the overnight extra protection super thick Always pads at Target. ?I wasn't sure how many the hospital would send me home with, or how long I would need the extra padding so I bought those.
  • I was told to keep asking for more of the hospital mesh undies with pads each time the nurses come by, the use those the first couple days home.  After that I have some black grannies I bought super cheap that I'll wear with heavy pads.  I got a couple different brands of pads because I haven't worn one-seriously-since I was 14 or so and have no idea which are good and which aren't.
  • I absolutely HATED the hospital pads and undies.  The undies didn't fit right and the pads moved around too much, and my bleeding was never that bad- so I went right back to regular undies and big pads with wings ASAP.  I would recommend bringing both to the hospital just in case.  Wings are key!

I forgot to mention that I put the big pads inside of the depends.
