3rd Trimester

2nd or 3rd timers...maybe dumb question?

i tried googling and looking up in my baby books. answers were too vague. when did you stop feeding your baby a liquid diet, whether it was bottle (formula or pumped) or BFing? and how did you know it was time?

  • I introduced cereal at 4months and started there.  She was off formula at 12 months.

  • AAP suggests to slowly start solids at around 6 months, but you do not stop either breastmilk or formula until after one year.

  • started solids right around 5 months-cereal and then right into jar food from there.   kept going with formula until right around 1st b-day.  but had added juice and water etc. to the mix prior to that.
  • We started with rice cereal at four months.  Your pediatrician will walk through all of this with you - how to mix the rice cereal with formula and/or breast milk and in what proportions, when to introduce solids and which ones first, when to introduce dairy and then later the potential allergens like peanut butter.  Don't worry!
  • It's called "introducing solids" and they used to tell people 6 months to START solids, you do not ever stop feeding your baby liquid, and many still get formula while they start solids so it's two at the same time.

?Now they say you can start solids at 4 months, but given all the allergies these days, we waited until a bit before 6 months to introduce solids as was the old?recommendation?for many years.?I started DD on regular whole organic milk at 10 months, when I started to wean her from BF'ing. She was totally weaned by 12 months, and drinking loads of milk, still loves her milk.?

6 mos I introduced solids while continuing to BF until almost 18mos (wanted to stop earlier but DD wasn't swallowing solid food-she just hoarded it in her mouth so pedi told me to keep up the BF)
  • I started cereal at about 4 months.  weaned off formula at 12 months.

thanks but i wasnt asking about when to introduce solids. and i know what it's called lolz.  maybe i should've been clearer and i know that it's two at the same time for a while. my question was that once you introduce solids, how long after that do you stop liquids (not water/juice/milk obviously, but breastmilk and/or formula). but looks like everyone has said around 12 months. thanks ladies.

  • we started at 6 months with rice cereal and progressed from there

  • I started 'trying' with my first at 6 mos. She wanted no part of it. Think she ate maybe 2 jars of baby food and half box cereal ever... she was close to a year when she started actually eating food and at that point it was table food. She nursed until 22 months (at the end only once a day for a couple minutes)

Started at same time with 2nd he ate some but breastmilk was main food until a year
