As our friend Mexine said recently, wow, it's overwhelming.
I love the doc! He's smart, funny and kind. And he kept encouraging me to call him or one of the nurses with any and all questions. He was realistic about diminishing fertility with increased "life experience," but still optimistic that something would work. (although DH and I aren't likely to do all of the 'somethings.')
I will get the results of my blood tests tomorrow.
My ute is normal in size and shape, but the lining is thicker than he would expect. He said I could have a fibroid beneath the lining, or it could be hormonal. All treatable, not to worry, we'll know more next cycle when they poke around in there with a camera.
My right ovary showed some, but not many basal antral follicles, but he said this isn't the ideal time in the cycle to check for them, so all I should take from it at this point is I've still got some eggs. Woot! Eggs!
My left ovary was hiding. He said he could find it, but didn't want to hurt me on our first visit. ![]()
Next: Genetic counseling as a matter of course for DH and I; SA for DH; HSG, FSH, Clomid Challenge, etc for me.
Odds and ends you might find interesting. (Note, I'm not endorsing any of this stuff, just passing it along):
-Doc has personally delivered a healthy baby, conceived without fertility treatments, from a 56 year old!!!!! i feel so young.
-Doc said not to bother charting unless I really want to. Just BD every other day during my fertile week. He says he'll never look at my charts because they don't really prove ovulation.
-Doc said CM is not always a good indicator of when to BD. He said sometimes it dries and gets thicker as it flows from the uterus outward, and so what I check might indicate my fertile period is over when it actually isn't yet.
I will probably continue to chart, because even if the temp spike doesn't prove ovulation, it proves the luteal phase has started.
-Doc said advil is the best thing for menstral cramps, and that it can be taken during AF. It won't hurt a thing early in the cycle. But don't take it after AF.
Re: Back from the 1st RE appointment - with opinions from my RE on charting and advil.
Glad it went well Joyful! Although it seems that my gyn is doing all the right things so far, I am jealous that some of you get to go to the RE already. Darn insurance!
Interesting the different views the docs have on charting. Some seem to love it and others not at all. Thanks for the info on Advil. I take massive amounts of it the first couple of days of AF so I am glad to hear it is ok at that time.
Interesting info on charting and CM. Thanks for sharing.
Good luck with the RE!
That's all good stuff. It sounds like you have a really good game plan. Its interesting that my ob/gyn thinks charting isn't all it's cracked up to be either...then again this is the same woman who told me to "relax" and I'll get pregnant. Yes, I almost slugged her...
Sorry for the slight hijack...
Good luck. Keep us posted!
Well it sounds like you like him so that's a good start!
Mine also could care less about charting...oh well!
Hope all your testing goes well!
Congrats! Having a plan makes everything seem so much better. My gyn and RE both think charting is a crock. I didn't do it, but if it makes you feel better, go ahead and use it for your own information. It certainly can't hurt.
Good luck!
