I'm sure this has been discussed before...but I'm feeling really frustrated!
My son is 4 weeks old today. He is exclusively breast-fed (on demand) and falls asleep at the breast after about 3 minutes. I have tried EVERYTHING to keep him awake - burping, changing, cold washcloth, moving/touching arms/legs/belly/chin, switching boobs. Nothing seems to work. Therefore, in order to get him to eat for 15 minutes, it takes an hour. I find this especially frustrating because I can't even manage to eat meals because I'm constantly trying to keep him awake to feed. Then I feel like a horrible mother because I'm frustrated and I know it's not his fault.
Any ideas ladies!? And when do babies get a little more awake, so that they don't constantly fall asleep during feeding?
Re: I'm frustrated!
I know he's hungry because the minute I ease him off the breast (or a very short time later), he cries and either sucks his fingers and moves his head to the side toward the boob.
