Babies: 0 - 3 Months

does your LO need to suck on the paci to "get in the mood"

for BFing? I often have to start him off on the paci then pull it out and slip him the boob.

A&T I just saw your post with that phrase... it's SO TRUE in our household!

  • haha! No, but she does need it sometimes to get in the mood for a nap!

We try to only offer the paci at nap time.

  • its so funny isn't it!  he just needs help settling down. if he's over tired or over stilimulated he will never latch on and stay on.  we also do the nurse and walk sometimes too!

I sometimes have to use the paci to calm him down first. He sometimes won't nurse unless I trick him first with the paci.

Not to eat, no.  He's a pretty hungry little guy, so as soon as it's offered to him he takes it right away.  He does like to have a pacifier to sleep, I've found.  Hopefully that won't last too long.  He didn't use one last night and slept three hours straight before his 3am feeding, and then slept until DH's alarm went off at 7am.  But he is only 8 days old, so everything is subject to change.
    I HAVE CHILDREN.
  • Not to eat - he's a boob man.  But it does help to get him settled down to nap.

  • LOL! DD is exactly the opposite...if I want her to take the paci for a nap/bedtime, sometimes I have to trick her by whipping out the nip and switching in the paci!

This didn't happen until L was 3 months old at least. If your LO sleeps with the pacifier just be grateful that he sleeps at night at that age!!
