Would you take baby on a cruise?

My DH and I are planning to take some type of trip at the end of summer. Our initial idea was to do a Disney Cruise with some friends and their family. Our DD will be one at the end of summer and currently she is walking and into EVERYTHING. So, I'm not sure we would really enjoy it or if any vacation would be feasible with a super active one year old. The good side is that they have a nursery so you can have adult time, plus with friends with us we could take turns with each others kids... and you just have to go to your room for nap time, but I'm not so sure about it.

Would you take a cruise with your LO or a trip to NYC (DH is from there) without LO?

I am craving some me and DH time so I would totally take option 2. We are planning a disney cruise next summer, DD will be 1.5

I'd go to NYC without Sammy boy. Hell, we're planning to in August anyway.

My mom said she'd watch the little squeaker, or even come with us to watch him so he doesn't miss his mommy (he's so clingy!) too much. No thanks, I want a real vacation! Lol.

I would do a Disney Cruise. It's the only cruise line that's baby friendly starting at 3 months. They have a nursery onboard and it's 5 babies to one adult and most of the time it's one-on-one. They have the best activities. I would definitely take DS.

no. after being on cruises without kids. i would not take any kids until they were at least 3. we are planning one for 2010 and we are only going to take aidan (mmmmaybe!)

Yes, we are planning on it. I say don't waste your money on a Disney cruise, the baby is still too young to appreciate it. Instead, book a cheaper cruise and he'll enjoy it just as much. We are thinking about going on a 4 or 5 day Caribbean cruise sometimes in August/September. The reason we decided that a cruise would be a nice family vacation with a baby is because of the reasons you stated. Liev naps twice a day religiously, if he doesn't, that night is hellish. It's nice to have a room to go back to for naps without having to take a taxi or what have you. They have babysitting services so you can have adult time, etc.

I can't wait to go.

I wouldn't. We went on a cruise at the end of July one summer and it was so hot it was miserable. Plus I think it would be hard to enjoy yourself. If a cruise without baby is not an option , I'd choose NY.

oh and as a sidenote, babies are annoying on cruises. if i was stuck in the early dinner with those kids id scream. and id never trust a babysitting service on the boat if my child couldn't talk and tell me exactly what was going on.

I guess it depends what type of vacation you want. If you're looking for a family vacation, I think a cruise is totally doable. If it's couple time you're really after, a trip to NYC is good too.

As far as traveling with kids goes, I'm a pretty big fan. Travel is very important to me and I hope to make it important to DD as well. She's already done a couple of big trips with me and I'm excited to take her to many more places. It takes a little extra planning and some good organizational skills but it can also be a lot of fun.

I wouldn't. I would leave the LO with family and go enjoy some time for yourself. I just got back from being away for almost a week and I'm a new mom! : )

Thanks for your input girls. I definitely see the pros and cons and have thought of all of those things as well. IF we do the Disney cruise we are going with friends that work at Disney plus we live in FL so there are lots of resident rates so it's actually not too bad (the prices).

The cruise with the two of us would be nice..but if we don't have DD with us my DH wants to go to NY since it's been a few years since he's gone (plus it's kind of romantic for us..I used to go up there a lot when we were dating to visit him) and I know I don't want to take DD there yet (she wouldn't do well at a baseball game and the whole transportation issue there, there are so many reasons I'm not ready to take her into the city).

I went on the Disney cruise years ago before I was married and we were the only single people on the ship (besides the staff). lol They are all families on that ship so I'm assuming they would be understanding (hopefully).

Does anyone know if they give you the early dinner if you have little ones? I cannot see us taking DD out at 9 (that would NOT be pretty).

I do agree with the nursery...leaving my DD with anyone makes me nervous though I have been using the childcare at the ymca lately and it's been fine and the ladies seem really good with her.

it just sucks bc you won't be able to do any of the cruise stuff on the boat. the shows, etc will not be fun with a baby.

no prob. and truly, that is half of the fun. the first cruise we went on, we went to all the shows. the MOST fun shows are the "adult only" comedy things, etc which start late. and dinner is much more fun at 8pm bc you can get pics done before, take a nap after you get back from the day off the boat, etc and have time. otherwise, its just rushing around and then going to bed.

I planned a cruise a year ago and planned to bring my kids with us and I just canceled I just don't think it will be that great with a 10 month old. We have been on 3 cruises this would have been our 4th I was willing to pay for her but then I started thinking about food and I heard she can't swim even with a swim diaper it just doesn't seem worth it anymore. We are looking into an all inclusive trip for Sept.
