Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Does everyone here sterilze their baby bottles regularly?

or am I the only one who does it diligently?

This topic came up with a couple of my friends who are expecting in the next few weeks.  I was shocked to hear that neither of them have ever sterized bottles for any of their babies in the past and won't be bothering to do it once theiir new babies arrive.

TIA

  • We sterilize the first time then use hot/soapy water or dishwasher.

  • I do now, but I probably won't forever.  I am sure in the future I will just throw them in the dishwasher.

  • Only the first time.  After that I wash them by hand.

  • We sterilize new bottles/pacifiers before we give them to DD for the first time.  After that, we only sterilize stuff after she's been sick.

  • I sterilized them before first use, but that's it.  Regular washing with hot water and soap after that.  I am not a germophobe.
  • Only before the first use. After that, we used the dishwasher or hot water/soap.

  • I sterilize his bottles once a week. I wash them in hot water with a mild soap after every use.

  • first time - when new.  Then never again.  I hand wash.  Occasionally they go in dishwasher.
  • I've never sterilized them. I threw them in the dishwasher the first time and now we just hand wash them unless we happen to be running the dishwasher. Then we throw whatever dirty ones we have in there.

Honestly, I think I've even used a bottle or two right out of the box in a pinch.

  • rarely...I did at first, but then again, N refuses a bottle.  The only thing I sterilize is pump parts, maybe once a week
  • We boiled before the first use but now we either hand wash or throw them in the dishwasher, it seems like it would be a lot of extra work to sterilize after every use.

  • I sterilized them all before first use and then again several times when I had thrush.  (I sterilized the nipples after every use when I had thrush.)  I put them in the dishwasher every so often on the sani cycle, but the rest of the time I just use hot water and soap.

  • I sterilized them after I first bought them, and now just use hot soapy water. ?I have used the medela steam bags only a handful of times. ?Its really not a big deal if you dont.
  • I boiled the bottle nipples (Playtex Drop-Ins) and pacis before the first use but not since. I just read an article (can't remember which parenting mag) that you actually don't even need to boil before the first use anymore, just wash in hot soapy water water or dishwasher.
  • On a regular basis they are just washed by hand in hot soapy water.  Every once in a while i wash them in the dishwasher.

  • I must be an oddball because I sterilize them all the time.  We quick wash with soap and water right after use.  Then it's just so easy for me to whip up a big pot of boiling water and drop all the bottles and pump parts in there every other day or so.

  • I hate washing anything by hand and I won't throw them in the dishwasher with plates and forks and such...so yes I sterilize every time.
