Dallas-Fort Worth Babies

I'm officially a mommy now!

The past week has been a whirlwind!  Went from bedrest to "you're checking into the hospital tonight and having the baby" in a matter of 3 days.  I ended up having preeclampsia and they decided having her 3 weeks early was in the best interest of us both, so through tears, I reluctantly packed my bags and showed up to the hospital (but not before getting a mani/pedi and my hair colored!).

I was most upset that my OB (whom I absolutely LOVE) was out of town and would not be delivering, but the dr. on call was amazing and as soon as I saw my baby girl, all those feelings of wanting to wait until my OB got back in town were thoughts of the past.

I started cervidil at 8pm on Friday since my cervix was showing no signs of softening and induction/pitocin was scheduled for 8am on Saturday morning.  Except, I ended up going into labor on my own!  The L&D nurse I had was HORRIBLE!  Not knowing I was IN labor, I tossed/turned/cried/moaned for 2.5 hours as M sat by my side trying his best to help comfort me.  Thank God, the day nurse walked in, saw what shape I was in and immediately sat down and started coaching me through contractions as she ordered the epidural.  The night nurse had told told her I was at 1/2cm, but as soon as the epidural was in, she checked and stated, "no wonder you're in so much pain, you're at a SEVEN and your water broke!"  I would like to kill my night nurse...she seriously stared at me like I was being a whimp and had me convinced I was.

Since I had no sleep the night before, I was told to rest/sleep once the epidural was in and the baby would probably be born around noon AND the induction that was planned would not be happening - my body had decided it would beat the pitocin to the punch!  I called my parents after my nap, but little did I know, the next check would show I was at a TEN!  Before parents could even arrive, Harper Madelyn was born at 10:17am and life is ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!  She's seriously the best baby...so much better than I ever imagined.  Due to my high BP, she was smaller than expected - weighing in at a whopping 5lbs, 3oz and 17.3 inches long.

I'm still dealing with preeclampsia after effects - high blood pressure, massive amounts of swelling...but being a mommy totally puts that on the back burner.
