Babies: 9 - 12 Months

did water make you sick while you were pregnant?

i can barely get through a whole glass.  i'm having problems with it room temp, ice cold, flavored, everything.

it makes me feel like there is a huge pit in my stomach, and i almost always end up throwing it back up.

did it pass for you?  what did you drink instead?

Re: did water make you sick while you were pregnant?

  • Yes, it bothered me the same way but I just drank it slowly. I was so worried about not drinking enough, even though I puked all the time.

  • Water makes me sick pregnant and not pregnant. ?When I was pg, it was really tough for me because I could not drink Crystal Light due to artificial sweetener. ?I drank ginger ale ALL THE TIME. ?Probably why I gained 50 pounds :) ?
  • Water didn't, but ice cubes did!  I still won't take my water with ice cubes!

  • No. I couldn't get enough water. I still can't. I carry a reusable stainless steel water bottle around all day long and drink out of it.
  • Yes!!  I had to be eating something in order to drink it.  I couldn't just drink it on it's own.
  • It never made me sick but I didn't really drink much of it either.  I drank sprite/ginger ale (for the hellacious nausea that lasted until 21-22 weeks) and crystal light instead.
  • I could drink bottled water--only certain kinds, and not from my brita for the first 12 wks....after that I was fine and drank water like it was going out of style--still do. I drank ginger ale the first tri --and ice cold water--since it made any weird taste go away-- in my head at least.

Ditto to the ginger ale and 50 pounds.  Cranberry juice, too.

Did you think of that as a replacement for water? Because soda is not a replacement for water. Not targeted at just you, just stating a fact.

  • Everything made me sick, everyday, the whole ten months, right up until delivery.
  • YES!! I could down a can on Coke in a second but a sip of water made me want to puke.

  • With DD I could only sip ginger ale my entire pregnancy. Any water would come right back up. With DS I only drank water, but I had that gross taste in my mouth my entire pregnancy.

  • Around 11 or 12 weeks I spent most of one evening barfing up water.  I decided that was enough of the M/S for me and I called for a Zofran prescription the next day.

  • well, I threw up daily til the day I delivered.... and water was the worst. I drank it, because I had to, but often (unless I drank it after the zofran) it came right back up

  • Not sick, but it gave me heartburn
  • Yes, yes, and yes!  I mix 1/2 cranberry juice with 1/2 water.  Sometimes 1/3 cranberry and 2/3 water if I want it weak.  It helps a lot.  GL
  • I couldn't stomach water either.  I drank a lot of Coke, 7-Up and Schweppes Ginger Ale.  The Vernon's Ginger Ale w/ real ginger made me vom too.

  • I like water with lemon or ice cold, but sometimes it gave me heartburn. You may wish to try G2...it's a 'watered' down gatoraid (not as salty IMO). I drank that a lot when I was preg.

  • I had really bad morning sickness, but water never bothered me. My MW told me that if I couldn't keep water down I needed to go in.
  • I'm amazed Madi came out as healthy as she did because all I did was puke up everything, with water being the worst culprit next to any hot liquids. Oddly enough I could keep down Tab energy drinks though... they were made with splenda and I was allowed to have them as I had GD with Madi

  • Water made me so nauseous and it is usually the only thing I drink!  EW.  It did eventually go away, but I don't remember when?  I would make myself chug it a couple of times a day to get the nasty feeling over with.

She said she drank it for the nausea,  not to replace water.  The crystal light is put into water for flavor.

Cranberry juice made it even worse for me.  It was too acidic.

  • Ugh! Don't remind me!  Yes, certain water bothered me, like the water fountain water from my job tasted horrible.  Ginger ale also made me feel gross, and I had the most disgusting taste in my mouth after eating or drinking anything.  Yuck.  I don't know how I made it through those first few months.  Slightly sour drinks were ok though.  Maybe you can try some watered down lemonade or iced tea with lemon?
  • YES!  I'm talking vomit at the thought of it.  I had a water aversion until the day I had Anna, actually.  Then I craved it something fierce while I was BFing.  I don't think I drank more than a gallon of water my entire pregnancy.  I lived on Cherry Limeaids and sweet tea my entire pregnancy.
