Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Anyone else have a tiny 9 month old?

I just got back from DD's 9 month appointment and the dr. is slightly worried that she hasn't gained any weight since her 6 month appointment. DD has never really been that into solids, I give her what she will eat which is not much. She does like finger foods much better so I normally try to give her those. I am just stressed out now. She still nurses 6-7 times a day.

He said we will just keep an eye on it and that I should try to give her more solids. Oh joy, because she loves eating so much. Anyone else have a tiny 9 month old? DD is 16.1 lbs. and 28.5 ins.

  • Well,we went to the doctor about 2 weeks ago and she was 15lbs 14oz and at 6 months she was 25.5 inches. I can't imagine she is much taller than your DD and probably shorter! We had the no weight gain problem from 4-7 months and ended up switching to formula, which helped instantly. As long as she is meeting milestones and still eating she should be fine. Your doctor sounds like he at least notices the problem and will be on his toes for future appointments about her weight!

  • My ten month old son is shorter than your daughter but he wighs 2 lbs more
  • My DD was 16.5 lbs and 27.5 inches so pretty close to what you're at. My Dr. was also slightly concerned. I was told to give more formula as her consumption at the time was about 25 ounces a day and when she eats, to give her more fattening foods like avocado, beans, and cheese.

I wasn't able to get DD to drink any more then she already was and quite the contrary she's drinking much less now. As long as they're meeting milestones and appear to be healthy, don't stress over it just yet!!

  • Mine is 16 lbs- she has been gaining each dr's visit. We have her 9 month appt on Monday, so I will talk to the Dr again about it, but at our last appt, she said not to worry about it, that she was probably just petite. She was only 6 lbs 3 oz at birth.

  • I totally feel ya on this one.

At her 9mo appt my DD was right around 13 lbs. She is now 11 months old and weighs 15 lbs 5 oz and is 26 inches long. I am still nursing her lots and trying to feed her finger foods as much as possible. We are getting her tested for Celiac Disease because my hubby was just diagnosed with it, and its genetic.

She reached all her milestones early and is happy and looks healthy...but I know how you feel. Its hard when everyone else's baby is a chubby roly-poly.

From your siggy she looks beautiful and happy. I wouldnt worry. Charts are just charts...try to keep your chin up and keep trying to get that food in her :D I am with ya in this battle!!

  • I noticed my little one started to put on more weight when we started her on formula.  Have you pumped to see how much you can express?  I used to pump several ounces, and then had a steady decline, we completely weaned at 9 months.   I wasn't worried though because she Loves solids,

at her 9 month appt she was 17lbs and 28 inches.

  • E was tiny, too. He was about 16 even, and 26 inches. Basically, I was chasing him with food.... At that point I started him on more finger foods like waffles, pancakes and bagels as well as all fruits and veggies. He is now 18 lbs 1 oz and 28 inches and although still less than 10%, he is growing and that is all that matters
