So, I have an OB appointment tomorrow to decide what to do. My babies are both vertex, have good fluid levels, placentas look ok, and are not experiencing stress. Neither baby in in my pelvis and my cervix is closed. The only concern is that I have not gained any weight in two weeks. I never expected to still be pregnant at this point. I am thrilled but never imagined that I would possibly be scheduling an induction.
My OB is very supportive about letting nature take its course so that I can have a vaginal delivery, but is also wary about leaving in twins too long past 38 weeks. So, our plan for tomorrow is to talk about options.
Other than the primary concern of their health, I am worried about having them over the holiday weekend and having her not be there. The hospital where I will deliver has an insanely high c-section rate and I worry that an OB who has not cared for me might be more c-section happy than my own. Would you schedule an induction? What should I ask?
Re: I didn't think this day would come
I was in a VERY similar situation....
My final OB appointment was at 37W5days, the Thursday before labor day. I started talking to my OB about if she'd be around for the weekend in case I deliver...she said she'll be around except for Monday (but even then, she would still try her best to make it for delivery). I also had an NST later that afternoon. My babies were still doing great, both head down, fluid levels still good, cervix completely closed. It was very uncommon for most OBs at my hospital to allow a vaginal delivery of twins, so i really wanted my OB to be there.
So, I hastily decided to go for an incduction the following day at 37W6days. My babies had other plans....after 3 doses of cervadil and a day and a half, I had no progess at all. I was given the option of going home or having a c-section that day. I chose to go home and see if I would go into labor on my own. So Monday, the holiday, rolls around and I have another NST at 38W2days....they see several decelerations...they had the on-call OB come see me and he said he'd monitor me for a few more hours and then most likely have to do a c-section. They managed to get in touch with my OB who came in and said she would like the babies to be delivered. She offered to let me do another induction, but she wasn't very optimistic since there was still no progress and no signs of labor.
At that point, since they were already seeing decelerations on both babies I decided to just have the c-section rather than go through another induction. And it really wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. My babies were born perfectly big and healthy on labor day
I guess my advice to you would be to schedule an induction for maybe 1-2 days before the holiday since you are full term now (I don't think most end up like mine did....the nurses said they've never seen no progress at all after 3 doses of cervadil). And hopefully you'll go into labor on your own before then. I'm sorry for the long response....it just seemed like our situations were soo similar.
Congrats on making it this far...you'll be meeting those precious babies VERY soon!!
I too would schedule an induction with your OB. I had an induction scheduled for a Monday (38w1d). The Tuesday before they were wishing that they could make the induction sooner because I was so uncomfortable. They even tried to get me in that Thursday, no luck. I went into labor on Saturday.
I would do what I could to be with my OB.
