Vent: judgy old ladies

I think the heat is making me a little pissy but I can barely bite my tongue when some old lady looks at my belly and then looks immediately at my left hand to see if I am married.  I know I work on a college campus but I am not a freaking student and even if I was, mind your own damn business grandma!

Grrrr.  The old lady over at the Union almost felt my wrath. She doesn't know how lucky she is that I was more focused on the cookie that she handed me =)

This should be a rule that is followed regardless of any situation. And not exclusively to grandmas.

I'm so sorry you have to deal with the judgmental stares of folks who have no right judging anyone. Jerrrrrks. That would grow tiresome.

I'm pretty sure I'll experience the same thing since I look all of 12-years-old (thank you, freckles and shortness) AND I am a college student. Haha. Non-traditional, but still.

  • I was amazed how many times that happend to me when I was pregnant.  One woman said something once because I stopped at the grocery store on the way home from prenatal water aerobics (and I didn't wear my wedding ring in the pool).  I was not very nice to her!!!
  • i got it too.  but then again, i was young and unmarried Smile.  still pissed me off because it does not mean that i couldn't be a good mother.

eff 'em (that's pretty much my matra for the day!)

  • The weird thing is...

One of the things that I was most looking forward to while being pregnant was my buying a ginormous CZ ring to wear for wandering grandma eyes. Like, I had the cheapest, gaudiest thing picked out in my mind, and I was so ready to head to Wal-Mart to buy it when I needed to. Alas:

    1) My rings fit during my entire pregnancy, thanks to GD and weight loss.

    2) I never noticed a single eye wander to my hand.

    Anyway.

People should just not be allowed to speak to pregnant women. Except to say that they are beautiful, and glowing, and "You don't look a day over three months pregnant!"

    :-)

  • I am SO right there with you.

(And i'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who is negatively affected by the heat. Yuck. On a side note, I had to google whether it was "affected" or "effected" in order to write that sentence.)

  • What biitches.  Like Brenda, I was able to wear my rings all through pregnancy.  Unlike Brenda, though, I gained weight.  I just didn't swell...the only time I did was when we flew to and from Indiana for the baby showers when I was about 30 weeks pregnant.
