Establishing an earlier bedtime

Can you explain to me how you established a early bedtime while having 3 naps during the day.  If they have to be sleeping within 1-2 hours of waking to avoid being overtired.  How does this work with a late afternoon/early evening feeding?  Do you feed right before bedtime or do you let them have a little active time and then settle down to sleep?  Then do you wake again for a feeding before you go to sleep, or do you let them sleep through unitl they wake again?

Re: Establishing an earlier bedtime

  • from my experience, he has to want to go to bed earlier also...some babies don't....I'd love if N went to bed earlier than 11, but so far that seems to be his set bedtime in his brain!

  • At 1 month my dd was not ready for an early bedtime at all, if I put her down anytime before 10 she was up by 10 to eat.  Now, I can put her in be as early as 6:15 and she sleeps until the next morning. This developed gradually and on her own time.  I worked the feedings around her need to sleep.  I have always fed her right before her bed time.
  • DS just started an early bed time. Previously his last feeding would be at 9pm and he would go to bed around 9:45/10:00.  Over the last week or so he would fall asleep around 7ish and I would have to wake him up for is 9pm bottle and he would barely eat an 1oz-2oz out of a 7oz bottle.  So I started putting him down for bed between 7-8 and he has been sleeping until 6am like he was when he went to sleep at 9.
