Hello, dear Smile

I was just wondering if you designed/built your site or had someone else do it? If you built it yourself, how long did it take and what program did you use? If you had someone else do it, do you feel it was worth the expense/time saved?

I'm at a friggin' stand-still with my blog. I've been building it in Flash and have most of it done. I've just been adding a LOT of new material with sessions lately and it's such a pain having to weed out older pics to replace with new ones. I feel like I'll never launch my site!

  • butting in--she used bludomain.com which is what almost all of the pros use.  A lot of the sites are $100 for the site and then $100 a year to host (or a 1 time $100 fee if you host somewhere else).  Sign up for their blog on google reader and you'll see when they have sales.  They also launched some $50 sites too.  Other sites are $400 but they often go on special for $100.

  • Wonderful!

    Thanks for the info Smile

I can't remember the site my friend and I used to get me started. I like my template but it's too complicated and I just can't finish it up. It's not working properly.

I went ahead and bought one of the $50 ones for starters, the top one. I think it'll serve me well for now.

Thanks so much, again! Hopefully I'll have something up and running SOON.

  • Yeah, I used bludomain and my site was actually only 50 for the template.  I really love the template, too.  They ahve some cool sites too for 100 and 400.  Reeally easy to use, too.

About how long would you say it took you to get everything ready for the site to go live?

AND how do you get the music on there? :)

  • Sorry - I didn't see your response back first.  BTW, I'm a loyal blog follower of yours Jac; google reader and all :)
  • They're slow.  So, once I bought the template, I was supposed to hear back within 24 ho urs.  It took more like 48.  To go live, since my domain was through godaddy and I could change the DNS numbers right there and it only took about twenty mins once I had everything laid out like I wanted it.

I contacted Renee and Jeremy who are the artists of the music I use on my site.  They emailed me back pretty quickly with permission to use their music on my site.  So, that was how I did that.

Awww! Thanks. You haven't had much to follow lately, sorry about that! I have like, five or six recent sessions to post (I think), I'm working on editing two then I have several in the coming days/weeks. Sometimes I really want to quit my bank job so that I could stay caught up. Geez. I'm raising my prices come the fall to REAL pricing for sessions and rights. I feel like I have enough material and enough experience to, finally, start making money with this thing Wink

Thanks so much for prepping me for what it's going to take to build the site. I have this Friday off and hope to make some headway. I just want to get started so I can finally launch my site. I suppose I won't expect the template in my inbox anytime too soon, then.

Yay for music. I'm thinking I'm going to put some bluegrass on there. Haha. I love it!
