2nd Trimester

Names.. Do you & Dh just agree.. or are you

arguing like we are?!?!?

Not really arguing, just we can't come up on anything we both like. ?I don't know how we named Layla, LOL. ?

Everytime I *love* a name, he'll hate it. ?Then he picks names like "Lisa" which, there is nothing wrong with.. but it makes me think of like 1970s. ?

He named off like 3 names that he loves last night and I hated all of them. ?

I guess he probably feels the same way I do.. but he named Layla! I should get to name this one ;) ?

Re: Names.. Do you & Dh just agree.. or are you

  • I had a couple names that I really liked & dh didnt at all. He hasnt really come up with any suggestions. I decided since he was going to go with my name choice if it was a boy, then I will let him choose the name since it is a girl. So Im just waiting for him to come up with something, which knowing him might not be until she is like two years old!

  • We completely agree on a girl name but are stuck on a boy name.  Which probably means this will be a boy! :)
  • Right now the conversation is very one-sided.  I'll suggest names and he vetoes them.  He rarely suggests one and when he does, I usually hate it.

There was only one name that we both liked, but everyone else hated it.  So we are essentially back at square one.

  • yes.  We are butting heads majorly on this one!  We agreed upon a boy name in the beginning and now that we know he's a boy, DH doesn't like the name anymore, he wants to use it as a middle name.  He keeps suggesting names that I would never even name my dog...it's really frustrating.  I want to start calling my LO by his name and DH is being a brat about it.

  • We narrowed it down to two names easy enough. Now we are just fighting between the two. I want Trent Anthony, DH wants Caleb Anthony. Last night DH decided that I want Trent mainly due to my obsession with Trent Edwards of the Buffalo Bills....LOL, he's only slightly correct, I really just love the name.....but I do love my fav quarterback! We will pry go with Caleb.
  • At least you are getting some suggestions out of him...

DH and I are both especially bad at picking out girls names... it took us forever to come up with Nora.  We just each made lists narrowed it down to our top 10 and then switched lists and each of us got to veto 5 names... then we discussed what was left.

We are having an especially hard time this time around as well... we'll see what happens (if we find out) at our u/s next week to see if we need to worry about it or not.

  • We having trouble with girl's names.  I am another one with an H that won't make any suggestions of his own but has no shame in vetoing whatever I propose.  I'm the one doing all of the work here.  We'll know on Friday whether or not we need to continue searching for a girl's name or if we can just use the boy's name we've already agreed upon.
  • We had a really hard time deciding on a name. Especially a boy name, so of course we are having a boy ;) We had a girl name, Piper, picked out way before our boy name.

My DH's name is Jerrod, but since it isn't spelled the traditional way, Jared, it gets butchered all the time. His grandma even spells it wrong to this day on birthday cards, Christmas presents, etc. after almost 27 years. HA! So b/c of this he was really picky about not wanting something spelled weird so he kept picking super traditional names and I didn't want something for the first name someone in our families had or I felt like 80 other kids would have. So...finally one just stuck randomly and I said, we finally agreed and are NOT changing it.

Hopefully one will just come along randomly and stick for you guys. GL!

  • yes dh and i  had a lil battle over the names  .. but this time around its a boy and it will be named after him!! which i dont mind because i always wanted to  use that name if i ever had a son!!  james, brayden!!

    arguing like we are?!?!

    OMG, this.

Everything I suggest, he hates... but he won't make any suggestions of his own.  Surely once we know a gender he'll buckle down, right?

I wish I could say yes.. but we've basically known for 2 weeks we're having a girl.. (we had an early u/s at 17 weeks, but Dr wanted it confirmed yesterday) and we've got nothing. He just keeps vetoing. ?& suggesting names from 1972. ?

  • My husband vetoed a lot in the begining but then we got serious.  Boys names were easy, but we have a girl.  He liked the name Paige, and I liked the name Rowan.  Our families hated both.  We have since decided on Erica Danielle, but have not ruled out the names we originally liked for future daughters.  I love Paige mostly BECAUSE my MIL hates it.  Is that horrible?  If we do have a redhead like my grandmother, I still think Rowan is appropriate.
  • at first, we were having arguments on names because every name i loved, he hated and every name he loved, i hate, so i know how u feel!!  but we finally sat down and agreed that i would name the baby if it is a boy and he will name the baby if it is a girl
  • Yes every name I loved he hated and vice versa.  Finally we have it narrowed down to 2 names but he won't make a decision! I have told him which I prefer and he just wants to wait and "make sure it is perfect."  I want to start referring to her by her name and not "baby girl"!

This is what I learned from my first pregnancy. ?I'm not telling the names.. It obviously is such a hard decision and once we've come up with one we both like, I'm not telling it. ?I'll just lie & say we haven't decided. ??

  • We agreed on a boys name right away...which made me sure it would be a girl...we didn't agree on a girls name until the day before we found out we are having a boy.  My first choice name he hated, his first choice, I hated.

At that point, I went out a bought a baby name book.  I went thru and checked off all the girls names I liked.  I then reviewed the list with him.  I got some pretty non-commital responses, so I told him to go thru the book and check off the ones he liked.  I said that if a name had two checks, we'd discuss it, only one check and it was out.  He never got that far.

The day before our anatomy scan his mom was asking me about names.  I told her our boys name, which she liked...she better, his middle name will be her maiden name.  She asked about girls and I told her we couldn't agree.  I told her about my second choice (hubby was warming up to it) and his mom loved it, so she called him later that day and told him she liked the name I wanted.  He then quickly decided it was a nice name after all and agreed to it.  Normally, I don't like the fact that his mom is always offering up her opinion, but in this case it worked in my favour, so I'm ok with it.

Turned out, we're having a boy, but I'll keep the girls name handy for next time!  I love both the names we decided on.

  • We disagreed on most of each other's name choices.  Jackson Elliot was the only name we both agreed on, so that is what we are going with :-)

  • We've had some trouble picking out a name too.  Unfortunately, the name we both like is already taken by a friend of DH's.  Can't do that...  I just can't see myself naming my son Aidric or Declan.  WTF?
