3rd Trimester

what kind of outfits are you bringing for baby to hospital?

I feel like I heard that you shouldn't do onesies at first since the umbilical cord will be so sensitive.  Any truth to this?  I'm having a girl, so I can bring a dress or I can bring a pants outfit but just thought I would check to see what others are doing.

Also are you bringing newborn and 0-3 month sizes? I don't anticipate having a growth scan so I really don't know how big baby will be (except that she will be at least 39 weeks and I've been measuring a week ahead for a while).

TIA

  • nothing, newborns are comfy in the white hospital tops and wrapped in a nice blanket. I brought a cotton blanket for the car ride home. Those hospital tops ruled, they spit up all over everything anyway.

  • I think pants would be worse for the cord  than a onesie.  I'm just bringing a couple sizes of onesies.
  • Coming home:  Light cotton long sleeved and footed sleepers.  Size preemie.  (DD was not premature, she was 7lb5oz and 21 inches and NB was too big.).  I'll probably bring a NB back up just in case.  You may want to bring NB and 0-3.

My pedi thinks the whole special line of diapers/clothes for the umbilical cord is a ridiculous marketing thing.  DD was a Nov. baby and wore onesies all the time and never had a problem.

  • I am using the undershirts/onesies that are provided.  I will be bringing her home in a shirt/short outfit with a onesie underneath.

  • Just a couple different sized onesies to be able to have an option for what to bring him home in. I'll let him wear what the hospital provides while we are there.
  • I'm taking a newborn onesie and a 0-3 month onesie. I read that the umbilical cord area actually has no feeling.

  • When DD was in the hospital we kept her in the outfits the hospital provides. Her going home outfit was a daddy's little girl onesie and matching pants. I believe we brought a blanket, booties, and hat also. She was 8 lbs 14 oz and she fit into newborn clothes if that helps you decide. (She was a pretty big baby).
  • couple onesies and a sleeper. nothing fancy. it's frickin hot here, and they have some stuff at the hospital too.

Exactly this. DS will be in the hospital onesies. No worries about the umbilical cord. I'll put one of my own onesies on him when we leave.

I will bring a light longsleeve sleeper for our little one on the ride home, in a NB and a 0-3 mo size.  While at the hospital, much easier to leave her in the stuff they provide - and I am not expecting to use the NB size, since my son barely fit into 0-3 mo size when he was born.

  • I plan on bringing a sleeper in newborn and also his coming home outfits.  I have two different ones that I have bought.  Most people I have visited at the hospital have had their babies in their own sleepers.
  • they have special clothes with the side snaps on it... for the umbilical cord

  • I plan on him just wearing what the hospital provides while we are there.  I did get a coming home outfit, a little gown type thing, that has booties and a hat with it.  We also got a nice blanket for the ride home.
