3rd Trimester

newborn pictures...

Do you have yours scheduled yet or have you talked to the photographer at all?  At what age are you planning on doing them if you are?  The lady that did our maternity pictures is also doing our newborn pictures and basically we just have to tell her when we want them and she comes to us.  She said that as long as she has 2 days notice, then she will be able to work us in (family friend).  I'm just wondering at what age is best to do them?

Re: newborn pictures...

  • Ours requires us to do it in the first 2 weeks after birth because that is the time when they sleep the most.  They also still have some of the wrinkled skin look that is sooo precious!

  • We have ours scheduled....to be true "newborn" shots photographers like to do it before the babies are 14 days old, this way they are still all curled up =)

  • We have already picked our photographer.  She knows my due date so we are just going to call her when LO gets here to arrange a time.  She said she is flexible.  We plan on doing it around 10 days old but are going to play it by ear.
  • I would say it depends if you want one of the picts for an annoucement.  I took my own photo for my announcements at about a week old.  I got professional photos done at 3months for her christening.

  • I am planning on doing 6 week pics.  He is going to have a hard enough time figuring out if it's daytime or nightime when he is first born and I don't want to traumatize him any more than what he already is .. so I feel like 6 weeks is long enough IMO.

  • I am a photographer and it truly depends on what type of pics you are wanting...if you want the squished up sleeping pics, then you need to do them before 10-14 days old.  Other wise, they are more alert and not as moldable...it can be done later, it is just more of a task to get them positioned!

If she is coming to you, I would shoot for 5-10 days old.  The umbilical cord will still be there, but that is part of the sweetness of a newborn!

    Good luck to you...

  • I tell all my clients I prefer to have newborns in before they are 10 days old.  The younger the baby the better they sleep usually.  Also, if a baby is going to get baby acne it usually shows up around the 4th week and can last awhile.  Babies aren't traumatize any and as long as the parents are easy going at the session and let the photographer do their thing it should go very well.

  • I got DS done at 6 days old and plan on getting our next ones done sometime in the first 10 days. You just don't get the newborn look after that IMO. Our photographer comes to the house and is so great with babies. I can't wait to get our new ones. She took down my due date and is going to keep her schedule open around that time to get us in.
  • before 5 days old if possible. I'm a photographer - and the sooner the better!
  • We're going to schedule them as soon as he's born for sometime in the first 10 days.  Our photographer keeps checking in - I think she thinks we've backed out on her!

  • we'll be doing ours at about 10 days. our photog is also a close friend, so just keeping her in the loop of when the little guy might be on his way so we can plan accordingly
