Not ttc related. In the area where you live, could you live

on a combined income of 125,000 per year?? I know it is a random poll.

Re: Not ttc related. In the area where you live, could you live

  • not in my neighborhood, but possibly in my town. and it would be incredibly tight.

     i live in northern nj

  • Yes, for sure. Alabama (for the most part) is a fairly LCOL area. Auburn is a bit higher than most places (except for Birmingham, Mobile, ect.) but $125,000 can easily be done.

  • Yes.  We have a combined income over under 100,000.  We are both teachers.
  • Oh definitely! We're WAY under that and we do fine.  I'm a teacher and he's a bank teller.  We both have PT jobs too but they don't bring much in.

  • Definitely.  Wow, I couldn't even imagine what a combined income of that amount must be like.  Sometimes I feel like we're "rolling in the dough" now on our much lower income.
  • We do. We are in a suburb of Atlanta.  We could not afford a similar house in the city with that income.
  • Yes.  I am in SE MN in a LCOL area.

We are formerly from northern NJ, and $125K would be pretty tight there though.

Well... since you and I are neighbors... you know that would be tough!

  • We'd be considered rich if we lived on that.

  • Yeah.  Easily.  I currently make $60K/yr and my DH is getting @ $20K/yr in disability.  We live in a 5 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom house on an acre of land, 10 minutes outside downtown Cincinnati.

Ditto this.  We live on about 40% of that and are quite comfortable here in Spokane.

  • Definitely.  When we were first married, our family income was half that.  And when I say family, I mean my husband's, since I have been in school the entire duration of our relationship!

You could live on that income in the suburbs of Houston.  However, you could not own a home and live comfortably in the area that DH and I live.  We own a home just outside of downtown.
  • We make about that in RI, and we're comfortable.  If we made that in Ga, where we used to live, we'd be rich!

  • Yep....it would be very easy to live on that in KC - many of our friends live on much less than $125k.

If we EVER get pg and have a baby, then I will quit and we will make less than that and be just fine.

That is one huge perk of midwest living!!!!!!!! :)

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

  • Yes. And we have budgeted to do it on significantly less once we have a child (and I quit working).

    Ditto

  • You might be able to, it all depends on what house you live in. Just two blocks away there are houses that have been for sale for at least a million dollars. Once you get anywhere close to the Hudson...pfft! Forget it! Hubby and I are really lucky (in a way) that we live with his father and only have to pay rent and not a full morgage payment!

  • I live in central Arkansas and that is a big sum for the area. Very easily live off 125,000 a year. We grew up in the Houston area and it would be doable there too.

    TTC since April 2008

Me: PCOS/Amenorrhea DH: Azoospermia due to Y Chromosome Micro Deletion IVF w/ ICSI on hold until further notice

  • We're pretty solidly middle class, own our home, both drive new cars, have zero credit card debt, and make half of that.  And we live in a nicer area.  With the Capital One loan, things are tighter than we'd like, but we still live, go out to eat maybe 2-3 times a month, buy things we want, etc.

  • Yes, easily. DH is in school and hasn't worked since September, so it's just me for now. Not only have we been fine, we've managed to save money every month as well.

We've lived on less than that when we lived in St. Louis as well. Having said that, I think St. Louis is a relatively inexpensive city to live in.

  • We live in North Jersey which is a rather expensive part of the nation.  We live comfortably on that amount.  I think the problem with your question is what do people consider "comfortable?"  In North Jersey, that means having a 5 bedroom house, 3 car garage, 2 bmws and eating out 4 times a week.  People here are spoiled.

We have a nice house, a couple of Toyotas, take a week vacation every year and eat out once a month.  We are comfortable.

  • AlikiAliki member

You certainly *could* live in northern NJ on that amount. We do.

You have to make some choices in the process, and give up some things, but you still live.

We had to downsize from a 3-bedroom 2.5 bath house (1,800 sq feet) in south Jersey to a 2-bedroom condo (1,000 sq feet) but you "live" just fine.
