Hi- I've recently moved to Rochester, and was hoping that someone would have some experience with either Strong Midwifery Group or Women's Gynecology and Childbirth Associates. I am not pregnant now, but plan on TTC in the next few months. It's really important to me to have a natural childbirth, and any insight into these practices (and specific midwives) would be really helpful!
Re: ROC midwife recs
My boss uses Strong, and really likes the majority of the midwives there! She urged me to switch, but I love my OB at WGCA....which you mentioned too!
I however do not care for the 1 midwife that is on staff at WGCA, I saw her once.....and that was enough.
Good luck!
I have had experience with WGCA. I loved my OB there (Dr. Lim) but didn't like being bounced all over the place while I was pregnant with my DS. They make you see all the OB's during your pregnancy, and while I thought I would be ok with that, it turns out I hated it. No one ever knew what was going on or what previous topics had been discussed at previous appts, I guess what I am trying to say was there was no continuality of care, IMO.
I decided to switch after my second m/c, and basically had it down to Strong Midwives and ParkWest Womens Health. I chose ParkWest because of location and because I got the best references for all of the doctors there. The info I got on Strong Midwives was also good, but I had more than one person tell me that 3 of the midwives were great but the rest of them weren't so hot. And since it is luck of the draw as to when you go in to have the baby and who is on call that day, I didn't want to take the chance that I would get one of the not so good ones.
There are no midwives at ParkWest, but I have been very, very happy with the care there and would definitely recommend them. I see Dr. Pentmensa and she is wonderful. I couldn't be happier. Plus there, the nurses actually answer the triage line and give you an answer while you are on the phone. At WGCA, I always had to call, leave a message and then wait for a call back, which was never very timely it seemed.
Good Luck in making your decision.
