our pedi got us onto Arbonne bath products and lotion right away with dd and i haven't ever seen a recurrence unless we run out and use another kind of soap.
DS started with Cortisone ointment and that helped a little bit. Now he's on a Rx cream for a week then we were told to use Aquaphor or something like it after this week. We use Dove soap and only on the cracks of his body (arms, legs, neck, butt) and don't use a lot. No bubbles in his bath anymore and we still have to use baby detergent and no dryer sheets.
Alek has severe excema. We use the Aveeno anti itch or the hydrocortizone- (Aveeno is a great product for sensitive skin- we found that the creams dedicated to excema for babies dont do anything.) Hope you find something that works.
DD has a pretty moderate case which has been resistant to most things. we've had decent success with Eucerin (the regular kind, crisco-like substance that comes in big tubs). Store brand seems to work almost as well as brand name. Seems like brand name does slightly better, but for the cost-conscious, store brand would probably do the trick.
CeraVue cream (the moisturizer in the big tub, not the pump lotion). I haven't seen it at Target, I only get it at CVS (a local chain pharmacy).
Weird story... I learned about this cream from a dermatologist I met at the airport. He approached me when we were traveling and we started chatting. He said that he specializes in kid's derma. It's not the cure-all but I would say that we're 90% better than we were. Eucerin & Aquaphor did nothing for us. And watch your bath products. Johnson products for us make it tons worse. This derma said that the ingredient that makes it tear-free is probably what is irritating her. But what can ya do? So I stick to Aveeno products.
Re: If your DC has eczema what do you use?
My son gets a mild case every now and then. We put some Aquaphor on before he goes to bed and its usually gone in the a.m.
