Let me know if this would be better posted somewhere else (Trouble TTC?) but I thought I'd post here since this is where I usually hang.?
So I've decided to bite the bullet and give clomid a try. In my researching the success rates I've found that it's a discouraging 30-ish percent, although I know there are so many different variables involved.
Anyway, just wanted to poll those of you who have used it:
- dosage? 50/150/xx milligrams?
- how many months were you on it?
- did you ovulate??
- success? one baby or twins?
- how many months did it take/which dosage was successful?
?
Re: clomid poll
- how many months did it take/which dosage was successful? 1 month, 50 mg was successful in causing ovulation

I didn't take clomid, but our doctor said the success rate with Clomid + IUI is around 10% per cycle. I've never heard anything close to a 30% success rate -- is that cumulative?
FWIW, we went with Femara because it had a higher success rate and less side effects. I got pregnant my first cycle on it.
This.
dosage: 50mg on days 5-9
months on it: 1
ovulate: yes
success: success on Clomid is defined as ovulating. i'm assuming you mean pregnancy, so yes. i don't know how many are in there yet.
ETA: ditto the others - you need to make sure you're closely monitored. how long have you been trying?
- dosage? 50/150/xx milligrams?
I did 50 mg and then 100 mg.
- how many months were you on it?
2
- did you ovulate?
50 mg, no. 100 mg, yes.
- success? one baby or twins?
Yep. I'm pregnant with one baby.
- how many months did it take/which dosage was successful?
We were successful the second month, which was the first month I ovulated. From what I understand, the only reason to increase the dosage is if you don't ovulate. It doesn't necessarially increase your success rate.
GL to you!
?I've been off the pill since September of last year. We weren't wholeheartedly trying the whole time, but I have been charting. I *think* that I ovulated on my own one or two of those cycles, but I had to over-ride FF because it didn't think I did. The cycle that I had bloodwork checked, I did not ovulate.??
I am still going to my regular OB/GYN and nope, they are not monitoring me beyond checking my blood work on CD 21. I asked. But they told me that it's not "necessary" on such a low dosage. I know, I know...?
Just as an FYI- Had I not been being monitored before starting Clomid, I would have lost my right ovary once I started taking it bc I had a HUGE cyst on my right side. Clomid would have ruptured it and basically blasted my entire ovary.
Something to think about.
Well, it sounds like you know the risks then. This is definitely unpopular on here, but I did my 2 cycles of clomid with my regular obgyn and I wasn't monitored with ultrasounds. I made a deal with myself that before I went to an RE and did thousands of dollars worth of testing, I would try two cycles with the regular doctor and see if it worked. If that second cycle hadn't worked, I would have called the RE. I knew all the potential hazards and complications, and I was willing to risk it at that point. Just be careful and make sure you're making informed decisions.
Thank you for answering.
1) you haven't been "actively" trying for a year. From your profile you're 31, so unless you have other issues, then a year is the general timeline to start worrying about IF.
2) everybody has annovulatory cycles once in a while. so the cycle you were checked could very well have been one of those.
3) find a new obgyn or an RE. I was on the lowest dose of clomid and was monitored by my RE. Good thing too because the clomid thinned my uterine linnig to a point where implantation wouldn't have been possible unless they had caught it in time (which they did) and prescribed me estrogen to thicken the lining. So, your obgyn's reasoning is bunk. You could also hyperstimulate your ovaries on clomid, which also can not be determined or found unless you are being monitored.

Best. Word. Ever.
Blog BFP Chart
- dosage? 100 milligrams?
- how many months were you on it? 2
- did you ovulate? yes
- success? no
In regards to how long you've been TTC... in general 12 months is the rule. However, if you have been DUTIFULLY charting for 6 months and you are consistently not having ovulation, then I think pursuing Clomid is a good treatment option. However, like pps, I recommend seeing an RE so that you can get monitoring with it. And to make sure you're not wasting your time taking it, you DH needs a S/A first.
Anyway, just wanted to poll those of you who have used it:
- dosage? 50 & 100mg
- how many months were you on it? this is month 2 but the most I'll do is 4 cycles
- did you ovulate? on 50 yes but it was a weak O, not yet on 100 but I should within a week
- success? not yet
- how many months did it take/which dosage was successful? don't know yet
No, I haven't been actively trying for a year. But I have been actively charting. And, like I said, in those 9-10 months I have MAYBE ovulated once or twice. Within that timeframe there was a 90+ day cycle stopped by progesterone. My current cycle is going on 45 days.?
I have done much research on the subject and I understand the risks. If 50mg does not work for me, I will assess the situation. But for now I am going to trust my doctor.
Thanks for your concern and advice. I will find an RE if it comes to that, but hopefully it doesn't...
Another thing to think about:
All the clomid in the world won't help you if you have blocked tubes and/or have sperm issues.
You should get an HSG and a sperm analysis too.
