*I would update my blog and not clog GP with this, but stepmonster now reads my blog, so that won't work*
After waiting an hour to see my vet, my vet's associate comes in instead. He takes a look at my dogs and tells me that neither of my dogs have staph. I refer him to my vet's previous notes and confirmation of said staph.
He listens (or pretends to listen) to the whole story about stepmonster's dog and my friend's dog. He then tells me that unless my dogs have giant puss pockets, then they do not have staph anymore.
They may have had it, but he thinks the antibiotics should have made them non-infectious. He thinks because my friend's dog had another skin condition beforehand, he could have caught the staph from my dogs, but without an open sore (this has to qualify as TMI!), there would be no way for the staph to enter my dog's bodies.
::sits here and wonders, is this making sense to anyone right now??::
Sigh. So, here we are: the vet gave each pug a steroid shot and wants me to call on Friday to report the state of their skin. He thinks they just have allergies and everything should be cleared up by then. If not, we are back at square 1.
On another note, my dad said he was sorry and offered to pay my vet bills. Sweet. ![]()
Re: Back from the vet, and more confused than ever (long)
I know Bandit has had a skin infection before, but his symptoms this time were very different than what he had last fall.
I feel so bad for furbabies like your sweet angel and mine! I swear vets just think, when in doubt, slap on some antibiotics and send them on their way! Not cool!
I'm with Wordsmith
I'm really sorry about your furbabies.
Ours have bad allergies that we're trying to figure out how to deal with, so I know how scary/frustrating it can be.
